DWC - Canna Nutrients / Hydroguard

I currently run all Canna Nutrients

Aqua Vega
Aqua Flores
Cannazyme
Rhizotonic.

Now my question is, i see a lot of people mentioning hydroguard for nice white roots, My nutrient solution mixes up brown and in turn my roots stay a brownish colour (which i dont like)

i currently use 1/4 strength nutes.

so my questions are

1) what our of the current nutrients i use, would hydro-guard replace?
2) feeding nutrients i use at 1/2 strength, do i need to run the rhizontic and cannazyme at 1/4 strength also?

i run at 1/4 strength due to nothing happening when running at recommended dosage, i get no root growth at all

Hey man i used to run the same nutes and additives in dwc. It always ended in brown discolored roots and mild root rot. If you are using a organic res I would be adding bennies otherwise stick to your base nutes and keep your res sterile.

calmag
canna vega a and b

Since droping the zymes and rhizo i havent had nearly half the problems I was use to.

My buckets are all connected, so when you say keep my RES sterile, do you mean when i originally mix up the solution? or do you mean my header pot? what do you do to keep it sterile?

From my experience being a novice is too keep it simple to begin with. After you have a few grows in dwc under your belt then you can experiment with adding benificials.

From grows i have seen running a sterile tank can result in just as big yeilds as running benificials.

I'm almost certain i had mild root rot my whole grow... i didn't get much growth but managed to pull it through to the end. Managed 10oz from 6 plants... with one plant pulling at least 2-3... so didn't do too well

Ill drop the Zyme and Rhiz. (thanks for the advice)

I do however live in the UK and Hydroguard/Aqua shield are illegal here.

I'll be cleaning my system out the weekend and starting fresh next week so thanks for the advice.

Dutchmaster Zone will do you well sir! I use that every 5-7 days. Get someone on the forum to mail you some hydroguard lol.

just ordered some from California..... will probably get stopped at customs but we shall see.

I just picked up some hydroguard today because firsttime's roots are sexy. Have me convinced. How many days AFTER adding dutchmaster zone can I add the hydroguard without the h202 killing my new friends?

How much do you add per gal? I wanna fight this root rot I have (very very slight). Too be honest I am not even sure if its root rot or just the dutch master nutes staining them slightly?

You'd know the difference. One stains. One turns roots to mush. Tug slightly on the root, if it breaks its not healthy.

Im pretty sure its natural for roots to turn a beige with age. Some people get pearly whites all grow, I don't know how, mine always beige up at best.

Had issues with one of my flowering plants and in a couple spots on the other two. Still doing fine. Not slimey, the roots just started dying and turning brown.

How comes you are running Hydroguard + Ducthmaster zone?

Am i wrong in thinking that Hydroguard is the only additive you need apart from your base nutrients?

I am NOT running both at the same time. I ran the zone to sterilize and now Im going to run hydroguard now that its been 3-4 days... the bacteria should be able to do it's thing. Obviously wont add any H202 or Zone while Im using hydroguard.

I know this is an old thread but for anyone new viewing Canna says not to use Aqua for dwc r rdwc systems. They instead say to use canna Substra. The high amount of air in the system throws aqua out of balance. I know that aqua was originally made for these type systems but canna told me they made a mistake.

I'm using canna aqua in my rdwc. Plants are loving the stuff and it even buffers ph really well. What does it throw out of balance? I thought aqua was for recirculating systems?

Hello,

Thanks for the question.
It is confirmed, use Substra not Aqua in the Under current system.
Aqua has a Bicarbonate buffer added to help control pH. Forcing so much air through the system rapidly dissolves not only Oxygen, but also Carbon dioxide (and any other gas). CO2 actually forces out other gases like Oxygen, rapidly becoming dominant. It also combines with the Bicarb buffer and causes the pH to go wild, particularly up. This serves to change the form of the nutrient ions to unavailable to the plant which hurts the plant rapidly. Using Substra avoids this issue. You still have to deal with all the other issues this system has, but not the nutrients and the pH relationship it brings. You will have to set and monitor the pH as you would with any other nutrient, but you will not have the buffer in the Aqua helping the speed at which it occurs.
