First time DWC

This is funny because I just switched over to soil after about 5 years of Hydro because I caught root rot in my DWC back in September and the shit scared me so much I started all over in organics hahaha. I could be wrong though, but I honestly think you may need to remove all of the brown roots because they're probably just reinfecting all of the new roots with pythium. Either that or just start over and stop using that damn sugar daddy because I am almost certain that is what's causing your problem. You are lucky you're only 3 weeks into veg I caught pythium 5 weeks into flower and all of my shit died, clones and all....Look into making compost teas also as that is about the only thing that I've found that can control the rot

guess what? That link I posted earlier tells how to fix that problem:bigjoint:

We can all agree that there are no two growers that grow the same way? Broke, you might want to freeze a couple of small water bottles w/ water in them and throw them in your rez when your lights come on. Long term, you might think about an aquarium/water chiller. I would also add extra DO in there w/ an extra or bigger air pump or go with the waterfall thing that Ty was talking about. Some silica in your nutes can help buffer the heat as well as make your stems a little stronger. Do you have fans moving air on your grow? How's your RH? High humidity holds heat, so you might want to address that also.

Anyone else feel the same about SugaDaddy??

@warble was actually thinking about using frozen water bottles. wasn't sure if it would effect the roots when they touch though.. and i keep my humidity low usually between 25% and 30%… Sorry for being such a noob but whats DO?.. i've got solid oxygen supply and exhaust fan above my lights and a fan blowing onto my plant

DO stands for dissolved oxygen in your water. The frozen water bottles shouldn't affect your roots negatively. Your RH is pretty low. You could put a controller on your exhaust fan to slow down your moisture escaping. When I first started out I would put a wet towel by my fan to increase the humidity, but you have to keep getting it wet and mildew grew, so I stopped that. I have a humidifier now. You might like the humidity around 40% to 55%.

I didn't see that at first, but I'm glad you posted the link because I wasnt gonna do it hahaha. Compost Tea for the win
I'm gonna dissent here. Having done many different compost teas and used them in many situations- including DWC- I've come to the conclusion that keeping your water below 68f is the single best thing you can do.

The compost tea can provide initial inoculation of beneficials, but it really doesn't do anything past the first 24 hours. The reason is a lack of appropriate living quarters.

Very true, but if he cant control his temps(like me) then Compost teas will help him out significantly. Its kind of hard to keep temps below 68 in each res wwhen you're doing multi bucket DWC without main RES ya know

Frozen bottles wont hurt at all bro. I had the same problem so I started using Frozen bottles in my res. Only thing is you will have to constantly change them out about every 12 hours atleast. Look at the link about compost teas that was posted. Im not CERTAIN, but i BELIEVE that if running teas then the res temps can reach mid 70's without problem. and I say it may be the sugar daddy because I ran DWC for 5 years without even knowing that water temps had to be a certain temp until I caught root rot and did research on it lol. So for 5 years I had water temps in the 80's and up im almost 100 percent sure of it. I didnt get the rot until I started using Molasses(being a dumbass) and Im pretty sure the Sugar Daddy is sort of like molasses being that its a carbohydrate and stuff like that causes major problems when temps aren't in check

Very true, and the prime reason why I went with RDWC from jump; one pH, one EC and one water temp for the whole group- and with the upgrades I made, just one waterpump circulates and aerates the entire system.

Dropped some water bottles in the res already looking a bit whiter honestly. Temps are still high so i'm going to keep changing the bottles till I get it right. Would I be okay just Xing out SugaDaddy on my nute schedule or will it not respond well just cold turkey?

Well not necessarily I had a hard time growing I. Soil but have really did wEll at dwc and areo .
you made your mistakes in soil and learned some stuff,so when you went to DWC you had better success. I can see that. But in reality, soil is about as easy as it gets, if people didn't try and complicate it and kept it simple. they would see that. But there is nothing wrong with hydro either and it will teach you a lot, as I said before.bongsmilie

this is from the sugar daddy label,
Suitable for use in soil, soilless and hydroponic based gardening mediums.
it is a carb for feeding microbes and not something you should use in hydro. UNLESS, you are using it in the tea that was posted in my link.

Bro if you got problems with high temps buy you some hydrogaurd . My rez temps in summer where around 76 durning lights on I tried the water bottle thing shit gets old . Do I bought some hydroguard and this grow has been great . Good luck

Best way to go right there...If I go back to hydro then this will be the way I do it. Nothing worse than having huge ass plants with buds falling everywhere and having to pick all of that shit up and change the nutes in the res...one of the reasons that Im loving soil

When you do, let me know. I can save you serious money on your build and heartache on your grow. Hardware is what I do.

seriously, if you can't grow in soil, you are going to have a hell of a time with DWC, but i wish you luck, you will learn a lot.
I had to LOL@this and make this observation, not disrespecting you at all, it's just that since I've been researching DWC there seems to be 2 main lines of thought: dwc is easier than dirt ...or.... if you can't grow in dirt you'll fail in dwc. Everything about growing is so relative to a persons experience and very subjective, ones person style which could be simple and hands off might be a complete nightmare for someone else. I'm jumping into dwc and LP aero/nft hybrid feet first with no prior hydro experience..should be an interesting adventure.
