Maui Styles Bodhi Testers and others

Howzit? I asked Bodhi if I could test some seeds for him and told him I'd do a journal if he wanted so here it is. I'm getting to test Skywalker OG x Pipeling and Jamaican x Goji OG, which I'll refer to as Skypipe and JamGoji. I'm also growing Harlequinn BX (from Bodhi, but not a tester), Kali Mist, Kali Bubba, and Malawi (Ace Seeds) and have some others in the lineup to start soon.

This is my first journal so I'll try not to suck at it too much. I grow outdoors year round on Maui's North Shore. The temperatures are pretty much perfect year round for growing. We get quite a bit of rain though and just as plants love this area, bugs do to, so fighting pests is a constant battle, which I'm sure anybody that tags along will see.

Unfortunately I had some poor germination rates with the Sky Pipe and only 3 popped do to what I believe could be a water quality issue. I've had some poor germ rates at this location before with seeds that should have been viable and one of the neighbors who shares the same water had 100% failure on popping seeds this past week and he's not a rookie. It's well water at my location and it goes into a 30,000 gallon holding tank that could be breeding some bad bacteria or something. So from now on it's distilled water for seed popping.

3 Sky Pipes
7 Harlequinn BX
8 Jam Goji

So lets get to the pics shall we,... yes we shall. Here's some keiki (kid in Hawaiian) shots These were taken on 11-21-14 and I'd guess they were a couple weeks old at this point. .

So let's fast forward a bit... like to this last week. We had what was basically a tropical storm last week with 5 inches of rain overnight and 50-60mph winds so the plants are a little beat up, but they're recovering well. Here's the how the garden is looking now:

Here was a Kerala Skunk from last winter. It was a huge yielder and stupid potent, but the buds grew too thick for my area during the raining season so I let it go. This is my avatar pic.

These two seedlings were gnawed at the base by a mouse/rat. I dipped them in some rooting gel and put them in some seed starting mix and one of them pulled through which I was pretty stoked about.

The plan is to keep a weekly update with the pics. We'll see how that plays out. I own a small business which gets in the way of gardening sometimes and my schedule can be hectic at times, but I'll get around to updates whenever time permits.

So just FYI, this is all organically grown MMJ. I grow for myself and 3 other patients. We get 7 plants a piece. Until Jan. 2nd of this new year we could only have 3 flowering plants and 4 vegging plants. Now we can have all 7 flowering so that will change things up a bit. All of these plants should be done flowering before the start of Long Season.

My soil is made up of compost, sphagnum peat moss, horse manure, cow manure and cinder and I reuse it constantly. I usually add some dolomite, gypsum and Stutzman Farms Nutri-Rich (chicken manure basically) in between cycles with no cook time. The plants don't seem to mind. And I spray BT, dishsoap, neem oil and molasses once a week to keep the bud worms, cut worms, bore beetles, mealy bugs, white fly and aphids at bay. I get a couple other bugs too that I don't know what they are. I usually try to top dress with something once a month or so, e.g., alfalfa pellets, fish bone meal, more chicken manure, etc.

The way I have things set up is to have starts going indoors, have veg plants outside that are then moved to the flowering area and to keep that rotation going constantly. With everything else I don't really have a system. I change stuff all the time and just try to see how my plants respond and act accordingly.

On Maui our days are never longer than 13 hrs and 25 min. so I use supplemental lighting in my outdoor veg area to keep plants from flowering which you can see in this pic I posted already

Only sativa-dominant varieties won't flower during most of the year including the summer (maybe some exceptions to this, but not IME). Here in Hawaii we have basically two growing seasons: Long Season (about May-October) and Short Season (about November-April). During Long Season some strains will stay vegging until late summer/fall (usually sativa dominant varieties) and plants can really put on some bulk. During Short Season everything will flower without supplemental lighting and the yield is reduced. The advantage to growing in the winter though is the aerial helicopter eradication and surveillance takes 3-5 months off so there are definitely people who take advantage of that fact.

Hey what's up bigworm?!?! I'm glad you found my journal. I hope things are great for you and seed hook-ups are always gladly accepted . I actually tried to start some Purple Voodoos, but as I wrote in my first post, I think there's a problem with the water where my garden is at. I tried to germ around 60-70 seeds and I think only 19 of them sprouted. I had problems trying to germ seeds at this location last time I tried and I've never had a problem sprouting seeds. I still have some P.V. seeds, but I'm only going to be using distilled or rain water for seed sprouting from now on. Hopefully I'll get some P.V.'s going next week along with some Mickey Kush F2's which were also generously donated and some of my own crosses.

Right on brah, I'm right under 21* Lat. I'm guessing you can get some great sativa strains in your part of the world. If the market allowed, I'd grow nothing but landrace sativas.

Howzit wyte? Nice to have you here. I probably should know more about it, but I don't. I do however have a couple friends that' have been growing here for decades and I know at least one of them has grown Blood and/or Blood Thai. I'll ask them about it next time I see them. I grew a Kerala Skunk (AKA Kerala Krush I think) that my friend said was very similar to the Blood plant. I've smoke plenty variety here, but for the most part it has been local no name stuff and without exception has all been potent and great in it's own way. Strain names weren't a common thing here until fairly recently so I may have smoked some Blood plant and not even known it.

Here's what Bodhi said about the Pipeline: "the skywalker hybrid is actually using a sister to the blood plant,
its a Hawaiian has plant, the blood version seems to have a little
of the blood sativa mixed in."

What's Goji B? Does the Goji B get tall? I guess I have to get some more info on the Pipeline from my buddy sooner rather than later. And yeah, if I was doing sativas indoors I'd probably just go straight to 12/12 lighting. I'm guessing the Goji will probably help keep your cross from getting too tall so you probably don't need to. How long do you think you'll veg them?

I've seen some dudes who do a good job growing pretty extreme sativas indoors by going straight to 12/12 from rooted clone. It works out to about the same time as guys who veg their plants 4-8 weeks and some sativas can be monster yielders so the yields work out about the same too.
