HOW TO GET THE STANK OUT OF YOUR CURED BUDS???

I know this has been done before but I would appreciate a little insite from some of the best on RIU ... my last harvest was Huge in yield, do to topping, & cloning from flowering plants to put back into veg, but the smell not there like when harvested... can someone explain I'm starting cure jar buds, in 60% RH in Dark room open every other day for 2hrs but 2wks in & no smell very potent but no smell not even when fully dry & ground up.... WHY??? Just want my next harvest to be of "Connisuer" quility any help would be greatly appreciated thanks everyone.....

smell can sometimes be lost during the drying or even flushing process and it can also take time to build

Also remember you`ve smelt this stuff a lot so what seems mild to you may blow the nose off someone that has not been around that weed and them plants

Happens to me all the time 6 weeks into flower of a new strain I can smell it great and by the time I`m running my 2nd or 3rd load of plants of that strain I can hardly smell them

It`s part of why some growers are happy to swap a bit with other grower mates, its like eating food you cooked it never tastes quite as sharp as if someone else cooks it

but also I notice the smell can take 3 to 6 weeks of cure to develop and if you cure correctly then it should be that way as the more humid bud is slowly drying and there`s a whole fermentation process going on

quite oftern if you seprate some bud from the mass of it and leave that out till its pretty dry say 30% then jar that up for say a week and let it breath now and then, then let it get all the way dry before you grind it up

well its never as nice as a full cure but you get more taste and more smell a bit sooner

Also leaving leaf on the bud can take away from the smell but only because your adding or keeping the smell of the leaves and many leaves may be loaded with trics and terps so I keep them on but for some people they kill the smell or make the bud take longer to dry and cure

personally I leave as much of the frosty sweet leaf as I can on

It may make the weed less appealing to some, but that`s good for me it`s my weed its only got to appeal to me, lol

Koo koo lol I totally understand what u mean, I'm still trying to perfect harvest & cure stage, so will try this way & different ways on my next.... thanks for the help & your right the buds are are pride, so as long as it's killer smoke who care what they look like ...

I think it loses smell when you jar it up wet. Then it smells like skunky eggs. Which is also okay, but if you let it dry just right...the moisture left inside the buds comes in the jars....the jars man!

And it stays bright green too....but brownish is ok too though...

Smell 'mainly' comes down to genetics .... Even within the same strain, one plant can be stinkier than another. Between strains there is so much variety. Some plants just don't have it in them while some do.

That being said .. proper drying and curing will allow the bud to achieve it's full potential for both smell and smoke quality.

You may have overdried the bud by having it being aired out for a couple hours. Don't know how humid the bud was before you put in jars but I try to dry and cure as long as possible without having it mold. That's where you will get the best taste and smell but like someone said its genetics. Some strains will not stink after cure and I've had some strains really stink after breaking the bud down and some that's just all the way loud no matter what but keep working at it you will get it. Never used the hygrometers myself but lots of people are using them to cure with so you know what's going on inside the jar

Grow sharksbreath,your worries will be exactly the opposite.
Oh,dry in 60degrees at 50percent humidity for a couple weeks..slow and steady wins the race..def a process that you wanna take your time with..

Did you happen to have Ona buckets or anything in your dry area? I've seen that one posted and that it'll mess with smell. My first 2 runs didn't smell or taste as well as post harvests. But I also tuned in drying and curing much better. I did in fact keep Ona around in the drying area during those 2. I'm not saying that was the issue but could have been a part of it.

I hang dry whole plant( no trimming whatsovever) for 10-14 days in a dark closet at 60-65 degrees F 50-55% RH.
Then trim to desire.
Then into a cardboard box with a hygrometer until 50-55% RH.
Then into a jar(1000 ml) with hygrometer,I keep burping daily until they are at a steady 55-60% RH.
Then cure for 3 more weeks.
Most strains should really stink and the smoke will be phenomenal if done right.

Early harvest or flushing (nutrient deprivation) prior to harvest often account for a lack in terpene content in finished product.

As other people said, harvesting early can make for diminished smell. I had a bubblegum that, when left for another week would develop an extra skunky layer on top of the already deliciousness. Also if you dry too fast and hot before trying to cure, it don't matter what you do, you'll lose flavor. Also if you jar it up too wet an the buds "sweat" you'll lose flavor. Slow dry cool conditions for 10 days before the stem cracks when you bend it, but doesn't break clean. Then jar and burp. You'll see flavor come out over the next month.
