Barcelona is the new Amsterdam, according to High Times!!

"IMO"? How is that an opinion, it seems more like wishful thinking, based likely on more wishful thinking and not the fact it's HT who fucked up the cup by requesting the permit too late, much later than usual. Again, I don't get the wannabe-desire. Barcelona will never be the new Amsterdam and pretending to be that only makes it more unlike Amsterdam.
..
Amsterdam is the Marquee event because it pulls the big tourist trade,.If their numbers fall the cup becomes less festival, more trade show ( read: less fun) Amsterdam has been kicking around the tourist attendee for a few years now. HT. knows it Amsterdam knows it,and the tourist doesn't care who messed up, only that his buzz was bummed. If this continues and it looks to me, like the Amst. authorities plan to keep poking HT in the eye, and tightening the screws on the tourist, his tude will go from the place to be, to been there done that (because they have). Let's go to Denver, Barcelona, Seattle, etc, etc, this year.If Ht. can't run a smother Cup, they will have a diminished cup leading to a build up of an alternative. Barcelona or anywhere needn't be Amsterdam for the crowd to quit Amsterdam. No wishful thinking to it, strictly my op.

Perhaps more ignorant than normal is the proper epithet.

Yes, good news. Amsterdam will finally be safe to travel to on Thanksgiving weekend. But Barcelona hasn't done anything to deserve it. Maybe Newark, NJ. Newark already sucks dick.
There are 7 or more HT cups already, not a lot of places in Europe where it's possible. If there's going to be a HT cup Barcelona, then despite the cup being bullshit it's a good thing because it says something about Barcelona (that it's easier to get high than it was). What I don't get is the seemingly competitive and envious attitude. Perhaps it's a left over of the 80 years war...

And what kind of lame name for a club is Kush anyway... is there also a Haze, and a Skunk... actually that last one would work, with stoned skunk as logo. Club Skunk.

Making things up and then basing predictions on that is wishful thinking. You claim to have an opinion about something you imagine and seemingly prefer to happen in the future.

There won't be a 15% thc limit, there won't be a weed pass or limit for tourists, there will still be 150 coffeeshops left after closing the ones near schools - in Amsterdam alone.

There's nothing harder for tourists to walk into any of the many coffeeshops and smoke there or outside or buy coke, xtc, rent-a-hookers or w/e than it was a decade ago, well, except it's busier... it was not as much the authorities in Amsterdam that fucked up the cup but HT organizers.

I still don't get the misplaced competitiveness or whatever it is. Why are cannabis clubs in Barcelona and possibly a HT cup not good enough? How does things supposedly getting worse in Amsterdam help you? Ah, so you can pretend Barcelona is the new Amsterdam... it's not even laughable, just absurd. If I were Barcelonian I'd say fuck Amsterdam, we do it our way, plus the weather sucks there.

i tend to agree satived. amsterdam, from the second i walked off of the train, till the second i got back on it, the over whelming smell of weed was every where.. i happen to love the smell of burning ganja, and even i thought it was a bit overwhelming.. i've never felt freer in my life than when i sat outside of a coffee shop at a table and smoked a joint in the bright sun shiny day.. ok, ok, it was a bit over cast, but the sense of freedom i got sitting there puffing for all the world to see, and no one batted an eye lid, was unbelievable..
sure, barcelona is beautiful and the weather is amazing, but idk, it's still not the same as amsterdam was for me, and i loved barca.. it's hard to put into words.
and to think that any where in the us could even come close to amsterdam at this point is simply laughable imvho.. even colorado, where they have legal weed, still isn't any where near as open and up front about it as amsterdam, and it'll be a long, long time before it ever will, if it will..
amsterdam is simply unique, and the fact that different cities are vying up to become the next amsterdam only puts an exclamation point on exactly how awesome amsterdam is to begin with..

well there still white Mexicans tho
who, the spanish in spain?
it's not the fact that mexicans come from spain that is the reason mexico is so awful, it's the major corruption and bad economy..
i never once felt worried about my safety in spain, and i went into certain areas that you're told to avoid because i'm a freak and like to look at and for the darker things out there, which of course i can always find in w/e country i'm in..
i don't know how to explain it any differently, but mexico and spain couldn't be any further apart..

hint number one, notice the absence of armed federales? yeah, me too.. spain is beautiful ty, really, absolutely stunning, and people are super friendly..

Well I've never had the pleasure of going to Barcelona but I have been to the Dam many times. Being more historically focused than most I greatly appreciated the fact that tolerance of weed is part of strong Dutch historic tradition. There is something beautiful about it. This is a place where the oppressed found refuge for hundreds of years - a place where the most whoreish of the whores could learn to make lace. Their attitude on cannabis was just part of this tradition. And in the modern age, cannabis smokers have certainly been a repressed group. The Dutch didn't fuss about weed's medical benefits - they simply have a culture that allows dissent. This made for a unique experience that is unlike anything here in America.

I'm glad that High Times screwed the pooch. While going to a HTCC in Amsterdam might be a rite of passage, my desire to experience it again is unmeasurable. Kind of like Mardi Gras. And now that the Euro is down to $1.19, this seems like a pretty great time to go there.

I have never enjoyed Amsterdam less than during the High Times Cannabis Cup. I'll never forget sitting in a coffee house near Anne Frank House staring out the window listening to the mindless chatter of my fellow Americans. I remember one Freak Bros reject that was loudly expounding on his theory that the Bush presidency was "just like the Nazis". But there really were Nazis on those cobblestones outside the coffee house - and a few blocks away a Jewish family hid for their lives. I found it in poor taste and unforgivably naive.

It is best to visit Amsterdam right about now - in winter. That's my opinion. The coffee shops are less full of tourists. Better to meet some locals. How much money you got saved up @tytheguy111 ?

It seems to me that the one thing that the American HTCCs accomplish, it is to provide a large enough venue of pot smokers to reach critical mass. Consequently the local police are far more inclined to just manage the crowd than make actual arrests. Kind of like the Dead coming to town. For me, it makes a decent freakshow but has little to do with our day to day lives.

What I call my opinion,You call "Making up, Wishful thinking,Imagine, seemingly, claim to have". Wish I could read minds that well. How many Coffee houses do you need to have a good time, certainly not 150. "it was not as MUCH the authorities...............that f##k#d up......" Right they both messed up, but you don't poke a stick in the eye to someone you want to hang around. There is no competitiveness (misplaced or otherwise) in my opinion or where HT's premier event takes place,They don't care they sponsor all HT. cups.Only Amsterdam's lack of hospitality/cooperation will send the premier title elsewhere. Things getting worse in Amsterdam doesn't help me,it just drives away the tourist, His new destination need not equal Amsterdam, Just be a destination city and welcoming.
