I call BS. You would be happy to just sue the city if say a muslim refused to treat your mother with a simple life saving procedure because your mother was say a Christian and it was against his religion to do so. BS BS BS. Not gonna try to get him thrown in jail? Just gonna give him a hug and say "hey man, you did what you were allowed to do." BS.

simple to make laws and look at the world from one simple angle.
I'm one of those people that work in healthcare and was told it was everyone's RIGHT to my services, my staff, my equipment and my time.

You can call BS, but if you know the whole story, you wouldn't.

Or you may be a UB sockpuppet, in that case, you are likely to say just about anything and be wrong more than not.

What's clear to me is that no one should be denied anything (particularly a life saving procedure) based solely on someone's version of the sky fairy story. An EMT that did so, and caused a death that could have been prevented should be charged with a crime.

If you're an EMT, treat people. If you're a baker, make fucking cakes.

Why should people have to tolerate religious intolerance?

You mean the intolerance of those that refuse to honor religious freedom?

Going forward, any EMT being interviewed in MI will be asked about this until a law is made not allowing it.

I'm trying to think of any reason an EMT or Paramedic would have for not treating based on religion and can't. Maybe if someone is wrapped in bacon?

As an EMT and emergency room staff member, I'm disgusted by this.

I will be doing CPR when your heart stops, not checking your religious preference.

I will be working hard to make you comfortable because you're a human being, not because we worship together.

Not one person in my ER would ever discriminate based on religious or sexual preference.

In fact, emergency medical service personnel are often saving lives without knowing the patient's name.

Your sexuality is not questioned in the ER and religious/cultural preference is noted in case we need it.

Denial of care, especially in emergency medicine, is typically because those resources/services could be better allocated elsewhere. It has nothing to do with you're gay or not.

How fucked is this?

So your saying you would give that muslim a hug and say it was his choice to save your mother, the old bag should have checked his religion first before calling. BS. You would NOT want that EMT charged with a crime? You would see your dead mother on the floor and you would defend his right to ignore her distress? We aren't talking about a citizen, this is trained personel.

It does not matter if you can think of a reason or not. This type of thing cant be allowed with any service that is supposed to save lives. You cant judge this based off what exceptions you can think of off the top of your head. Religions have all kinds of crazy rules. If Christians really went by the bible they would have to stone the EMTs who work on sunday.

I'm not sure why it's hard for you to believe, I'm against forcing people to do things against their will.

I'm also against hiring lunatics who go into emergency medicine with stipulations on who they'll treat based on religion, so there's that too.

Did you know there are some states that have good Samaritan laws that protect me against lawsuits if I don't do CPR on you, but because I'm a licensed medical professional, if I start CPR I can't legally stop until someone equal or more qualified relieves me or I give out from exhaustion. So not helping I'm protected, helping but stopping too soon, I'm in trouble.

I agree that it's a messed up law, but I disagree that it's going to have any weight.

i find that hard to believe because you reverse that view as soon as a woman gets pregnant and wants an abortion.

that, and you're an extremist fanatical dogmatic bible beater, apparently.

I honestly don't know a single person that was works in healthcare that would use this law. I think it's just typical political pandering bullshit.

Hell, we treat convicted murderers and rapists with AIDS.

I'm LOLing at thinking about a radio call coming in, "53yo male, unwitnessed arrest, unknown downtime, does your facility take non-Jews?"

CPR will be initiated as soon as we know more about him!

Hahahahhhahahahaaahahahaha

we've gone over this.

your confidence that people will boycott bigots is misplaced, a complete delusion.

and i think an EMT responding to an emergency at say a gay nightclub or gay wedding might be a good hint.

Forcing people to interact or not to interact is inconsistent with freedom.

We can't and shouldn't try to make other people boycott things, PROHIBITION DOESN'T WORK.
Although I would voluntarily consider boycotting Wendy's, I've never liked their bathrooms.

If you are afraid somebody won't behave the way you'd like them to, threatening them with harm doesn't work as well as demonstrating your kindness or simply don't associate with the people that don't share your values.

Also, you haven't drawn a cloud penis in weeks. You feel okay?

way to come out of the closet as a fanatical extremist radical christian, ginwilly.

i guess we're all just "religion haters" if we don't respect your "freedom of religion" in refusing service to gays (or any other minorities you loathe for that matter).

this and your post last night about how shit like this falls under "freedom of religion" in your opinion really seals the deal on that one.

you are a fanatical extremist radical christian bigot.

Forcing somebody to do something with their body is alot like rape Mr. Bundy.

Any peaceful person should be able to refuse servicing anybody else, and they should also live with the consequences, good or bad.

Clearly you have no understanding of how negative market feedback is a market signal of failure and positive market feedback is a market signal of success. Nor do you understand anything about what property is or isn't. Sad, very sad.

A persons religion has nothing to do with their individual right to decide who, how or if they will associate with another when they are on their own property.

For example -

It's okay for you to burn a cross on YOUR lawn or shit in your cats litter box in YOUR house.

It's not okay to bring your litter box to Wendys and make a giant cat shit cross on their counter and burn it there.

See? Simple.

While I appreciate the sentiment that helping sick people is a great cause. It is nearly always erroneous to think that a person that refuses to associate with another is or even can be the cause of that persons death.

If your position were accurate, YOU are responsible for some deaths yourself. You likely have the capacity to "save" some people from death that live in desperate situations and yet you haven't sent them money or opened your home to them. Is their death your fault ?

I'm willing to bet you won't address what I just said and will come up with some cloud penis logic or some other nonsense.

Eh?

I look at it no differently than most anything else in life. Practice/believe/do whatever blows your hair back. What a person chooses to smoke, or eat, or believe in is none of my business, and does not concern me one bit. BUT, when those beliefs impact others (IE, an EMT letting a gay person bleed out due to religious beliefs) then that crosses over in to whole different realm and should no longer be tolerated.
