You seem to know a few things and im confused. So the rednecks term originates from the civil war correct? But im never sure exactly why the civil war started, In some places i read that it was because Licoln raised some tax after being elected president leaving the people in the south paying a huge amount of the tax revenue in comparisson to those in the north. But then other places say its because of slavery? But i also saw that around the time civil war started most slave owners had already freed their slaves and only a small percentage actually owned slaves.
So what was it exactly?

Its romanticized nowadays, but it was purely political just like today. The slavery issue was a side deal and something to hang a political hat on. I was taught that it really was a political struggle between the NE industrial states and the Southern states. NE had the much larger population & had most of the manufacturing and there were large tariffs on goods between the states. Since the South was primarily agriculture with little manufacturing/industry they were over a barrel tariff and goods wise and a smaller population and the South hated that. The country was opening up, the westward expansion; the NE powers got the Feds to ban slavery in new states/territories in order to prevent the expanding South from using slaves as labor in the future industry/manufacturing that might be built in the new states/territories. Basically to preclude competition.

Honestly, I think its because psychologically we haven't gotten over it. The Civil war and the Revolutionary war are our history, what made us and there are still unresolved festering issues

I agree I miss used the phrase trailer trash.. it doesn't make sense u can't live in a farm house and be trailer trash!. Farmers are mexican...The owners that drive by in the truck once a day mugging everyone are the racists I'm referring to.!don't get me wrong I don't think everyone that owns a farming business is racist...but many old school families from california still hate Cesar Chaves and Mexicans in general...
