1st time grower (and clueless)

Hello everyone,

Jason here, first time grower, lovin' the experience so far, 1 week into flowering stage using DWC bubbleponics, using a 300w LED and flora series nutes, along with SM-90 and Seaweed Extracts.
As you can see some of the leaves (very few about 2-3% of them) are spotted, I believe this is a Calcium issue (just ordered CalMag a moment ago, should arrive in a few days).
Tempratures are at a constant 70 degrees F (21 C) and 60% Humidity, dropped from last weeks veg temps & humid of 80 F & 70%.

Will begin SCROG tomorrow as these girls are growing fast.
I'm aware that the current humidity (60%) is a bit high, I ordered 2 of the EZ wireless Dehumidifiers, hopefully those will bring them down to 50 or 40%.

I haven't smoked in over a year, just got divorced and ready to chillll, the strains I'm attempting are NYC Blueberry diesel, Amnesia, Strawberry Amnesia, Afghan Kush, Blue Dream, and Silver Critical Haze.

That's all the details I can think of, can anyone tell me what it is I might be doing wrong at this stage? any tips, comments, questions and/or advice are more than welcome :bigjoint:

1) use words...or are you a neanderthal? remember the 5 rules of a story. what, when, where, how and why.
2) turn off the shitty light and/or turn on good lights. or bring the damn thing into the kitchen to take a pic.

Easy fellas, just having an issue with my Damn Chrome Browser where it won't see the text line for some reason, so I have to post and edit afterwards. I'll have pics under regular lights without the LEDs in a minute. Meanwhile, great to see these prompt responses :hump:

there were no words...he fixed it. a single line doesn't help us determine a probable cause...yeah i was clueless is right

I was implying OP was clueless, hence a wordless post.

And....... OP types but only explains why he hadn't typed, not an explanation of his post.

Edit: look up Joven, He did fix it!

Thanks for your confirmation Desr, luckily it's only a few leaves out of the bunch, I heard that this is uncommon with LED growths. If you see anything else out of the ordinary I would really appreciate it.
Quick Q, whats the maximum humidity at this stage that I should worry about? can't get it lower than 60% got 2 Eva Dries and the AC unit is on Dehumidifying mode (Humidity is really high here in the south), anyways as I mentioned I ordered 2 more ez wireless dehumidifiers which many forums seem to agree is a great solution.

Why do first time growers try to use advanced growing techniques? Don't they realize that they will spend an inordinate amount of time trying to do them, only to get a reduced yield because they messed up somewhere or to only see a tiny improvement.

You'll get better results just by adding more light than trying to do a SCROG.

You're right, I forgot to mention that I also ordered 2 of Apollo Horticulture 250 Watt CFL Compact Fluorescent Grow Light Bulb of 2100K (Can't afford more leds at the moment) what do you think?

That will help, but honestly you should have gotten an HPS light. Less overall heat, better penetration and a basic 400 Watt HPS would have been cheaper too.

Why did you go with LED? I hate to see a guy spend 10x more than he needed to.

i went seed to harvest with 11 23w cfls my first time, and as long as you get that humidity in check before serious budding begins you should be good, its mostly a worry of moisture getting trapped in dense big nugs and causing rot, its not 80% or anything lol..and yeah man LED are expensive, ive never used them, and dont know much about them (pretty much because of their price), why fix what isnt broken yaknow..mh/hps work great..also if you shop around you could find cheaper cfls, theres really nothing special about the cfls that are "grow" brand i think at a big box store you can get a 150w cfl for like 30 or something.

EDIT: and with it being bushy and wider, id think about supplemental lighting, like little 23-27w cfl for the sides and stuff, id even use the big cfl like the 125w for side lighting, get a few of those, cover your bases. itll be worth it:)

I don't know. I'm on my first grow and I think it's came along excellent, better than some others with experience (some). I think if you're smart enough and research enough, advanced grow techniques are fine for a first grow. What was the OP trying that was so advanced? I just started in September, I'm currently mainlining 6 young ones from seed.

Is getting a reflector with the CFL a total must? or can I just have them hanging (or dangling) around the bushes?

I wouldn't even worry with the reflectors...

CFL light diminishes so quickly you really wouldn't even be reflecting much useful light by the time it travels from the bulb - to the reflector - back past the bulb - and then another couple inches to your plant.

Besides, for the price of two $5 reflectors, you could have added another 4-pack of $10 CFLs.

Edit: If you are using those 200w CFLs you were talking about, then yeah, a cheap reflector may be worth it. The light intensity would probably be high enough that it would be useful. For the small ones, I would say no. My apologies, didn't see all the specifics.

I'll definitely invest in the best CFL's I can get, can someone recommend a spec so when I go to the local supplier I'll know exactly what to ask for?
