leaving my plants in darkness

So ive got abit of a dilema guys my timers have broken and my girlfriend is due to give birth her due dates today so i was wondering if it'll be ok to leave my 8 week old plants in darkness for anything upto 36 hours? Is it safe to do this?

extra darkness would just increase the flowering hormone... ? extra light would decrease and send back into veg but not 2 days worth

I just did this experiment and worked like a charm:

If you are at the end of vegetative, you can darken 2 days, give light for 2 and darken for 2 again.

This will flip the girls into pre-flower starting week 2.

I like the dark.
