Nigiri and Maki are different kinds of sushi. Would a nigiri roll be a maki roll with fish on top? I dunno, you blew my mind...
its not whats in it that seperates them..its the construction and nori..Nigiri and Maki are different kinds of sushi. Would a nigiri roll be a maki roll with fish on top? I dunno, you blew my mind...
Thats what I was trying to explain without getting technical. Nigiri and Maki are different types of sushi...I thought that was pretty concise...Haha...And I was trying to be funny...As in a "rainbow roll" is a maki roll with raw slices of fish on top...get it? Still has fish on top like nigiri, yet has the guts of a maki roll...Naturally, it's not nigiri...Just a coy way of making fun of your "nigiri roll"its not whats in it that seperates them..its the construction and nori..
Nigiri: A slice of raw or cooked fish or shellfish pressed onto a mound of vinegared rice, with a little wasabi (think the strongest of horseradishes) in between.
Maki: Layers of raw or cooked fish or shellfish, vegetables and vinegared rice on a sheet of dried sea kelp rolled into a cylinder then cut into pieces. Temaki follows a similar setup but uses only a half sheet of dried sea kelp wrapped around the ingredients like a cone; also known as a hand roll.
