150 W is not enough juice to decide on HPS. I have a good quality
600W bulb that manages to work pretty well. Just keep moving up,
and use the lower power stuff for things like male-boxes and nurseries.

And yeah, I remember asking everyone if 150w would be enough and each and everyone recommended 250, 400 or upwards of that. =P
Thing is I currently can't afford a large bill and can only have this much power being drained. My bills stay student-friendly like this =P

Hey Jad3, is the bulb on the whole 12 hours? I though I had read that people put it on for like 15 or 30 minutes each "day"

Yeah I've read of people doing that as well. My thinking, and research, say that in the places where UVB is most prevalent in the sun's spectrum is where the marijuana is considered the most potent. I'm guessing those places don't get only 15 or 30 minutes of UVB per day...
Anyway there could be a very plausible reason why they do that. And since I've seen that it contributes to maturing the flower without letting it bulk up, maybe it's got a lot to do with weight production control. Everyone likes dense buds =P

Yeah, I am semi planning an outdoor guerilla grow next year, and I understand your logic. Once you start to read about outdoor though, you will see that optimal sunlight only hits for a couple of hours a day, and shady spots are recommended. I just take this to mean that the plants don't need full saturation of amazing light to produce bud.
I am going to be getting one of those though me thinks. Do you just screw it in like a normal cfl?

Yup, it looks and works just like any other CFL. But it's slightly more agressive on the eye. and has this dreamy blue aura to it. It's a subtle difference, but I guess it's kinda cool that we can "feel" it.

I went a little into the design side of me this time. Hope you enjoy. I surely enjoy editing and perfecting them =)



Needless to say, this is now the turning point. From here on they will tend to bulk up.
I just need to remember to keep them well watered so they can keep sucking up the good stuff.

About 30 days to go.

I was really high last night and thought about you guys who helped me get around my growing.

I just wanted to express how grateful I am that you people keep me company here, and that because of some of you I am now a very happy guy when I open my tent every morning.

Shame you can`t get a 400 or 600 in your tent but needs must huh ? maybe you could spread the cost`s maybe veg with a smaller bulb then step into flower with the 150w hps then add another 100 to 200w`s later or you could do something like use a bigger light for the 1st hour or 2

The idea with short bursts of uv is that the uv degrades whatever chemical or hormone in the plant and then the plant responds by making more thc or cbd or what ever that plant/strain does

But if you keep the uv on then your still breaking down the hormone the plant can`t just respond right away to the "threat" so that gives rise to people trying bursts of certain types of light at certain times of day to induce certain things

That`s why I just go for 105w 2700k or 3000k cfl`s they give off uv and have more par then most "uvb" bulbs do plus there cheaper

Ahhhhh! the poor little thing! I had to scrap my first grows completely..... tried to start off using DWC....burned them badly with too many nutes then the slim in the buckets finished them off cause the water temp was too hot.

Single pic update.

Just watered the ladies. They are drinking nutes FAST now. I wonder how much faster they would drink with a 600w lamp =P
Anyway I backed up a bit on the nute strength. I'm at 1050ppm / 1,40 EC. PH 6,4. Since they are drinking so much, I'm making it easier to process, so they go through the whole feed without resistance nor overdose.

SO far so good, everything is starting to fatten up. The NL is being fed everyday. (2L pot Hempy gets bone dry from one day to the next, she's a thirsty one)
The P.Haze and P.TWreck are being fed every other day, just topping off the reservoir. They don't drink it completely dry, which I've heard is optimal for dense bud formation. I will be the judge on that after I'm done with these =P

I love this stage.

As I'm scrolling down the thread I see the progress so far. Itt gives me that nice feeling of satisfaction for a job that is going well.
Then I get to the last photo I posted and I notice that even though it's only been a few days I can noticeably see the diference in bud density by comparing with today's photos!
These babies are enjoying the swell!

The NL is a little behind on trichome production. I would guess it's pheno-based. Hoping for a nice body smoke on that one. Also the top node has shot up so much that it's com in contact with the reflector! haha
The PH is leading with lots of resin and some huge calyxes bursting at the tops, quite lovely. This will be the best yielder, almost sure.
The PTW is behind in bud development, but I'm sure it'll pack up in time.

All in all, they are pretty balanced for a 3 strain grow. And man does it smell good inside that tent! Lovely lovely! =D

I'm feeding some hot nutes these days to stimulate the buds the most I can before I start decreasing doses in a few weeks.

Will be harvesting on the 20th of December.

I have found it to follow my other Trainwrecks in growth style,
and this is "pole-y". Whether they shoot up fast or slow, they
shoot *up* with not that much out. I also found them to be a bit
sensitive to feeding. You seem all over it.

Have you done anything in special for the nice purpling you got? Mine are getting a few purple patches on the leafs, but nothing like yours.
I guess the hot/cold differential isn't affecting them enough yet. If they don't change on their own I'm thinking of running my temps very cold during lights out on the last week.
I guess it's sort of an achievement I have to conquer so as to put my mind at ease... "THA PURPPLE BUDS"

I have to say that I am pretty sure that it was just
genetics....when they went purple hard, they seemed
to do it in spite of me and not because of me.

Mostly a feeling....could have been some other associated
factor that I was not noticing.

Need more experience. :0)

Finally, one by one, the trichomes are starting to get a little cloudy. And the pistils are finally getting brown. One. By. One. Very. Slowly.

Which is getting me a little restless, because I HAVE to chop on the 19th. And that's not too much time left...

I'm just here hoping the UVB bulb will accelerate the process on this final stretch.

I really hope the smoke comes out great, because it looks pretty delicious inside my little tent.
