On the IAGLA FB site Andre @ Apache Tech had greenlighted a side by side with amongst others an Inda-Gro Pro-420 with Pontoon. Robert Becker is the AT engineer that had to ultimately give final blessings and he declined. Here is his letter citing his reasons that was posted on the IAGLA FB page basically stating that he doesn't need to run a side by side with the any of the lights listed including the IG since he already knows he'll 'significantly outperform it'.

Darryl,

Thanks for the offer, but we will pass. We have done this type of thing with several other growers/testers in the past and we really don't need to go down this path again. Our lights significantly outperform any of the lights you listed. While your testing would be good advertising for us, the people you are reaching are really not in our market. Our sales are typically to government facilities (NASA, EPA, USDA, etc...), educational and research institutions (Stanford, Ohio State, Carnegie Institution for the Sciences, etc...), museums and public aquaria (Monterey Bay aquarium, California Academy of Sciences, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, National Aquarium of Brasil, etc...), and Commercial crop and plant production (DuPont, Pioneer, Bachmann's, etc...).

While we understand the medicinal market (and we have a light specifically designed for this crop), especially in Colorado, Washington and upcoming in Alaska and Oregon and we do not shy away from it, and we are working with some of the largest growers in those states. Our business model is not looking to sell to the customer who wants to purchase 1-10 lights (however, we never turn those customers away, if they are interested in our lights we will sell one light at a time), our plan is directed toward the 100 lights plus purchase, and frankly comparing one light side by side to another is irrelevant to these organizations.

Maybe some time in the future we will put product and monies directed toward these consumers, but right now we can not keep up with demand for lights in our segment of the marketplace.

Good luck with your testing and I look forward to seeing your test facility and results as you get them! Again best of luck!

That sucks, but can see where he is coming from though. If there target demographic is large sales to big customers then this scale of an experiment only gives ya bragging rights in a sense. Nonetheless would have been nice to see it in the mix.

So the millions and rapidly growing small scale mj growers aren't in their business model?........lol

Heliospectra(publicly traded) has even lowered pricing and making consumer panels as research/institutional purchases aren't as brisk anymore.....

So why exactly does AT even offer small panels then?idk,I smell something ;-)

Well there you have it.
Just for the record...Andre never said yes ever...he said he was very busy and going to mexico, and that he couldn't commit a light or have the time to even think more about it. And that he(Darryl) can talk to Robert and see if he felt differently. The last thing that they(andre and darryl) talked before hanging up was that AT would never stop anyone from buying a light and doing what every they wanted to with it.
He called me right after they hung up, and asked if I knew about it.

There is nothing in roberts quote that you didn't already know. I have said it many many times and for a long time...they aren't a hobbyist light, they want commercial scale sales.

Why do they have a small fixture?...because it's the original and they have a shit ton of parts so why not upgrade...other than the housing there is nothing different in a at600 than 4 at120/200, just one big inventory. And also for the aquarium market(huge).
He said they would never turn down a customer for any purchase. But small scale is not their target...simple business plan, and by no means a bad one. 3 sales a year at their customers scale, will make more than hustling their ass off for every 1 light sale 365days a year. Work smarter...not harder.
In the end no matter who they are marketing to...it is the product that will define it's self...and the at600 is standing on top a lonely mountain.
As for cost...they actually make a very small percentage by any standards. Production cost to them for an at600, is the same as what it cost me(at home DIY'er) to source and build an at600 without the housing and guys putting it together.

It just seems a little odd to me, that's all. If your fixture is truly the best of the best over a 4x4 area, what's to worry about?

Most of us aren't privy to internal company info.......btw do you have any pics of commercial ops using at 600s since demand is so "high"?

GG I truly don't give a shit if they sample one of their lights or not. Neither one of us was in that phone call but I do know that Darryl has told me on two separate occasions he and Andre have talked about running side by sides and in both cases Andre agreed and then thought better of it. Darryl does not lie. That much I can tell you. If he said that's the way the conversations went down then I believe him. But so what about semantics. The thrust of it is that AT even makes you buy their lights because they only sell hundreds at a time and they can't peel one of for a good soldier like you or to loan it out for a side by side to be done by a grower that was voted in by some 4000 members on the J4G forum. I applaud the initiative. My guess is one finds it's way into a tent anyway.

I don't get company info...I get light info. I have no idea how many lights they actually sell, or do I get to meet any of their customers. They could be so far in debt they'll never break even or the could be sitting on a pile of cash. But I'm pretty sure they have no pile or some things would have happened already. All the names they dropped I'm sure have lights, and where the pay the bills from. I only know 3 medicinal facilities that have lights...not sure how many lights(not 100, more like 30-50) and I don't have pics. But not my part the industry...I just grow.
But out of all of it you are questioning the companies strategy. It's not our company...they can do what they please whether we agree or not with it. But as I said...the product speaks for it's self and is available to anyone. Apache is just a couple jews...is what it is.

I would love to see it happen. And as you already know...I have no say with what ultimately goes down at that company. I have my own projects coming up that are going to be taking up my limited garden space, so an AT will be coming down soon, for a run or two. If you haven't figured anything out by the end of my current run I will see what I can do about mine.
I know it will make it in...they are going to buy one.

Darryl is a businessman...he does what he has to.

Cmon G. Other than what you've shown us on RIU the product doesn't necessarily speak for itself which is why I'd like to see more gardens grown under their lights and this is coming from a Jew.

Come on what...Show me a par foot print that will hang with an at600...and not an hps? How about a production light with over 40%(closer to 45%...) efficient chips...let alone one that has 480 of them. Or heatsinks like AT's.
As for outside RIU(not just me)...show me any top company with warehouses full of lights(that were purchased not donated). or any test showing they are the real deal to take out a 1K hps.
Anyone in the is county and many others can use an apache, they are available for purchase to the public.
Also, AT offered the discount to darryl.
Weed is the largest cash crop in America an they are holding out for a bigger fish?
Cash values wise of the crop ya...but light companies aren't turning the crop and making the profit, they just sell the lights for others to do that.
The just said they were medical friendly...and confirmed the R2 is for cannabis. I don't think they have ever been holding out on the cannabis market. Don't take this the wrong way or jump to conclusions...but AT doesn't live or die based on the cannabis market. It just so happens that heir product works great on pot(go figure, it's a grow light designed by real scientist), but they have built themselves as a company on common agg facilities and aquariums. They should "want" to be in cannabis more...and they said they do officially. But they are not conforming to it, like others that target hobbyist and smaller scale cannabis industry have.

No one forces AT's at anyone. Many new comers have never heard of them...but the people that know what to look for in a great light seem to find apache. Whether they can afford them or not is another question...and one indagro needs to be asking themselves if they want a great test since they based it the merit/concept on top companies coming to the table...if they want the best, bit the bullet. Craigslist and ebay will still be around when the test is over.
I don't see an other top 5 LED companies in the list of products committed already...No illumitex, CLW, heliospectra, lighting science, blackdog, lumigro, advanced. Or even the meddle or the road reseller(kind, lush)...even hortilux hasn't responded...and won't. But they will probably just buy one of those(I sure hope or what are they really comparing to). So why not buy every light to guarantee no bias or favors are done...a true 3rd party test...except that indoagro is putting the whole thing on. I am not targeting indagro specifically...just the obvious that goes off in peoples head when one of the competitors in the competition(the side by side...by side by side) is organizing it. I know the guy was chosen by 4000 members on FB...but when the owner of IG is calling asking for lights...it sends up some flags for certain people/companies. I know you guys and what is going on...but think about it from one of the other companies shoes.
Illumitex won't even sell full price to another light company. It's been attempted already...but they can't screen growershouse customer accounts.
