Try bghydro.com. Decent prices, great service and support if you should need it, and they offer price-matching on a lot of stuff, so if you find something cheaper elsewhere, they'll likely match the price. It's no fly-by-night operation either; they just expanded. Business must be good out there in California. Heh.

Dude, Call around to some of the general contractors in your area and find where they are tearing down a warehouse, or some other commercial building with high bays. Almost invariably, the indoor high bay lights will be MH, around 400w or better. The outdoor lighting will most probably be HPS, again, between 400w and 1000w.
I found as many lights as I could carry for 40.00 US each! (Bulbs and reflectors included) The down side, you gotta separate the actual reflector/bulb fixture (mogul base) from the transformer, and wire it for whatever voltage you want (no big issue). Most can be wired in 4 different voltages. There will be a "tag" on the ballast part that states the MFGR, bulb type, wattage, voltages, etc.
If the MH lights have the bulbs, replace them, even if they seem to work. MH bulbs emit a shitload of UVA, and there is a "barrier" inside the outer bulb that filters this, but it can be damaged. (and a used bulb probably is) I had one motherfucker of an allergic reaction (from sitting under the lights 20 min per day) that required medical attention. From what I read, HPS lights dont have this issue.
I am going back and get 6 more HPS 1000w fixtures. I am sticking with the HPS, because there are "conversion" bulbs available that emulate the MH "blue light" spectrum that are compatible with HPS ballasts.
I was told on other sites that commercial type lights aren't all that good, but hey, call me an idiot, however 400w of HPS is the same light, no matter WHERE you get it!!! And my first grow looks as good as any I've seen here so far. Plants are big, and healthy!!!

I have one lumatek digital 600w ballast and 2 el cheapo 600 watt ballasts as backup.. Lumatek's really are the shit. As far as bulbs I don't spend huge dollars on them(ie brand name hortilux), as I have 10 backup bulbs but each one is rated for 95,000 lumens.

Do you have a link for some cheapo 600-watt bulbs? I bought some cheapo 400s from 1000bulbs.com (I think), but haven't found cheapo 600s. Help a guy out? ;)
