closed loop noob

I just purchased a closed loop system that looks like the turpenator iii. The only difference being, mine doesnt have a valve between the column and the dump valve.

I have been just filling the column through the top, then I dump into the collection pot and recover. This seems to work ok.

Can someone explain why the turp3 directions have you flood the column from the bottom, then up and out the vent line into the collection pot? Is there oil moving out the line? Is oil building up and then all dropped into the collection pot at the end?

Bottom up helps eliminate channeling.

Yes adding on to these machines seems very easy. I just want to completely understand why first.

Snaps, what is channeling? Could this be the indent in the material from feeding tane through the top? I was going to add a cone reducer to the top to avoid this.

Channeling is the fluid following the path of least restiance , and their for not saturate/extracting all the stuff , when fed top down gravity plays a part in pushing the fluid down faster thru the path of least restiance, but top up it's fighting gravity pushing the fluid more evenly thru the packed tube

I have no clue how much channeling is a issiue in extractions but their is a type off fitting called a venture that is designed to evenly mix the fluid (whatever may be flowing thru the pipe) that may be of help

Well worded and imo accurate.

Not sure any amount of mixing the butane, venturi, prior to it hitting the material would have an effect on it's path through the material.
