seed problems

I recently started some seeds and I'm having problems I've never had.I started them in wet paper towels for a few days till they had good tails going.after I planted them I waited for them to pop out but never did,so I dug them out to have a look and they both now had no tails and what was left of the root was mushy almost like slime.I checked the pH on my mix and water and both are good so I don't see pH being the problem.the mix I'm using is harvest super powered organic potting mix from Lowes.any help would be great I need to get these going but I don't want to keep ruining my seeds.I was starting white widow x big bud and big bud xxl and I'm using a gallon of drinking water from Walmart which is just ro water and that's it nothing extra.

Sounds like either the direct result of too moist of a medium, or of a fungal/bacterial attack due to the overly moist soil conditions, do yourself a massive favor and just cruise the forums for info on starting seeds in organic soil before you try to pop your next ones. Just read everything.

from time to time this happens to me

Some times you get really unlucky with fungus and so on

Just start with some dry clean soil and some fresh water again

Hopefully the next lot pop for you just try not to over water

the paper towel thing I only do when I have to germinate a ton of seeds with little space or I have seeds with a low germination rate

That way you can just pick out the ones that pop

Other wise I use a rooting cube or just a small pot 50ml to 500ml to germinate in

Oh also make sure your temps are good you want it around 20c in an ideal world

stick a seed in a soft neoprene insert, in 2 days you may have to adjust it so the seed is at the top and the tap root is sticking out the bottom. umm that's all.
Never thought of doing it that way. I'd personally be worried about damaging the taproot while removing it from the neoprene, but I'm glad it works for you :)

yeah its so great I filled 24 sites with 100% success. I would dare to say the tap grows faster than in a paper towel. and if you're worried about root damage, NEVER use paper towels :)

I'm going to start a couple bag seeds and play around with getting those started.the mix I'm using does hold water like a beast so it may have been too wet.so hopefully I can get it worked out soon.thanks for all the help.

I just stick one seed in the 5 gallon smart pot full of the moist soil I'm using and set it under the light. I think I've only had one seed in 3 years not make it to a fully mature plant. Never have figured out why people complicate it when all you need to do is stick it in the dirt.

I don't think you have the right soil. Order a bag of Fox Farms or equivalent off Amazon and be done with it. By the time you get done messing around with inferior supplies you could have a foot tall plant.
