It really sucks to be born in the era that we are in. I fear that there is so much bombardment with all these stories that it has made us callus and the people would rather bitch about it then get something done. Ferguson was a different story because that had racial motivation but all the other stuff gets their week on the news and its off to the next crazy story.

Also my wife just found out that one of the employees at her work was on the front page of the paper for molesting little kids and its not his first offense. THe company has decided not to do anything about it and it makes her feel uncomfortable. I am just wondering what you guys think if it is bullshit to keep a child molester working (more than one conviction and this is happening fairly recent). Would you get rid of him or keep him?

That's fucked for a convicted child molester to have the ability to reoffend. This goes to show what a failure our justice system at corrective behavior.
On the same note, I strongly dislike the idea of justice that continues after one has paid their debt to society. We put "sex offenders" on lists but not murders.

Yeah, it totally makes me feel uneasy about the whole situation to. I don't understand why some dude is sitting in jail for his whole life for pot but someone else destroys lives by molesting little kids. Just doesn't make sense at all.

Today, you've posted stories of cop killings and another school shooting from the past few days. Your points on teachers and the characters of many LEOs is also dead on. As the good leave, they are replaced by agenda driven opportunists[ in many cases] and unqualified / hired because of racial or gender quotas. [ Did you see those chubby girls w/ guns among the responders in Canada?

I have friends who are teachers. I also had a class mate in my program who quit teaching. When I asked him why his response was, "It was a thankless job, paid shit, and parents overall didn't invest in their own childrens education. " He entered my program as a means to become an agent of change.
My friend who is in a charter school, despite the school having a whole bunch of bullshit, he loves teaching and looks forward to trying to do his bit. Even though a lesson plan for one day stretches into three, he is still pressing on to help these kids.
The point you seem to miss is shit happens. I don't freak out about it, our culture unfortunately encourages it. Nonetheless, I think people are overall good, and people do try to make things better. At this junction we are at a philosophical disagreement, I don't think its worthwhile for either of us to hash out such a conversation.

I know all about the school systems - I subbed regularly in another state as recently as 8 yrs ago - my wife[ at the time ]had a full time gig there. The public schools are hapless, and getting worse. In many cases, it's more about survival than learning.

The point I think you miss is that, yeah, things happen - but the drastic rise in occurances and sheer gruesomeness and brutality of the crimes are unparalled - as is the weakness of the gov't in every area that matters to civil society, especially in it's ability to provide for the common defense.
Along with all the other crime and chaos that's been a rising tide in N America [that you've helped document], you can now add jihadists hiding in plain sight. NJ, OK, WA, ARK, AL, NC....you really don't know until they let you know. The 'element of surprise' is not on the good guy's side.
At some point, the sheer combination of events - worldwide and internal - and massive gov't weakness is going to overload the country's ability to cope. It doesn't take a lot of stress factors to morph 'good folks' into desperate survivalists.
You couldn't pay me enough cash or Goji OG to live in or near a city. For those amigos that do - don't let your guard down....assuming you have it up. Do whatever you have to do to provide for you and your families safety. [ guns and canned goods ? ]
If you wish to not continue the conversation, n/p. It was never a contest, and there is no winner or loser, imo.

The United states actually has the lowest of violent crime reporting in a long ass time. It's still too high for my liking but it's not increasing.

But if you think public schools are bad, check out charter schools. My friend can't fail any student, can't give a zero for any missing assignment doesn't have computers, and has zero protection in employment . So if his student fails he is punished. Truly great job for 5 years of college at $32 k a year with shit benefits.

One could argue that is because of all the layoffs of police officers, or that crime really has just naturally gone down. I would hope for the latter.

Overall law enforcement jobs are increasing. The only areas that have seen decreases are areas with economic instability (Flint/Pontiac but they got block grants for additional troopers/county), even Detroit is hiring police officers

The bay area has lost many police officers, mainly San Jose. It used to be one of the safest cities but after they dropped the patrol on tagging and gang squad the city rose in crime and homicides. Such a tragedy but it happens.

Here's the first line I read, which is where I stopped. Perhaps you could explain the word 'increase'?

Don't sweat it, amigo. The increase is less than 1%, which is still surprising to me.
BTW -
After many years in the concrete and asphalt - which I loved - and a late detour in the real 'sticks', I purchased the Ponderosa just a few years ago. At the time, it had nothing to do with 'hiding in the woods', but I'll tell you now, that unforeseen benefit is a sweet bonus. I can make the city in less than half an hour, for whatever Amazon can't send out. Lots of room to store lots of guns [perhaps?] and viddles [ how we talk in the 'sticks'] amongst a full cabinet of jarred buds, so one trip a month would be enough outside of social occasions. Schweeeeeet !
