Diminishing light routine?

This is in some college horticulture text books and is called the 12-1 routine also.

Simply put it goes like this.

In veg it's 12 hours lights on, 5.5 lights off, 1-hour lights on, 5.5 lights off, and repeat schedule. The 1 hour on in between off period fools the plants to stay in a vegetative growth state! Your immediate savings are 5 hours in energy costs daily, as well as your bulbs and equipment lasting longer. (vs. 18 on 6 off)

In Flower you would do it like this.

Start your flowering period at 11 hours on 13 hours off. When your are growing outdoors each day you get less and less sun light, you should copy the way the sun acts naturally in your indoor grow. So first 2 weeks of flower you go 11 on 13 off, the next 2 weeks you go down to 10.5 on 13.5 off, next 2 weeks 10 on 14 off, next two weeks 9.5 on 14.5 off and the last weeks of flower you should be at 9 hours on and 15 hours off. If you tend to run longer you simply stay at the 9 on and 15 off if needed.

The whole theory behind this is that you are mimicing the sun exposure in an outdoor setting, as the sun time is fluid and starts shorter and then gains time till the equinox. At that point sun exposure will decrease as winter gets closer.

Before you ask about starting with less time and increasing it for veg. the idea of the 12 -1 is to SAVE those 5 hrs of electric cost....it works and there is NO difference to the plant with an increaseing exposure time other then some extra grow time.

Now then. Lets look at the flower theory. I've tried it. I found that it only saves about 1 week in finish time. BUT it reduces the yield! So then, in my book the flowering part is RUBBISH!

The way to increased yields in flower is to employ a 13 - 13.5 lights on time and use a PAR or far red led (730mn range) for the last 10 min of lights on and 5 mins into lights out. This will "put the plant to sleep" imeadiatly, instead of the 2 hrs it takes with using ANY indoor artificial lighting!

That answer your question?

P.S. Who needs a Sith Lord anyway?

Dr Who nailed it ...
other than the opinionated crap
tagged to the end of his comment,
its very plausible and even possible way,
to avoid those high electricity costs,
even more so next year

I've been using 1x 600w hps,
for the 5.5 but with a single 23w (2700k) cfl
for the 1 hour on in the middle, with great results

PM me to avoid any flaming war you may incur?

How is that 5.5 working with the 600?I just added one and I allowed for 6 X 8'.This will allow a 5 X 8' Vegging Room.Do you think I'll be wasting space?I'm used to multiple 1000W's but adding a little something...

I'm adding a 400w M/h shortly,
once the new bulb arrives, hopefully today?
and doubling the 23w cfll,
as snaps above, I need to disturb their sleep for one hour halfway thru their sleep
if anything this alone will cause any dodgy strain to herm
we wait and see
In reply
plants never get enough lumens ...lol

Delp didn't develop the method V, he made it popular again in the 90's.
I was poking FUN at you in my first post,,,,due to your "novel" on-line identity. Don't take it personal, OK? No war!

Snaps, I agree with you there. That's why I don't use the method. To hard to tell what strain might not work with it. I don't have the time for accidents.
