I think my clutch is slipping, I get this fluid that leaks out my rear end, it's not a whole lot and there seems to be two different types one is a clear fluid and it's a bit thin and watery, the other is a thick brown sludge, not much of a problem I guess I'll live with it but it is a bit of an annoyance.

where at the rear end is it leaking out? is it from the bell housing in the center or out by the tires? Either way it sounds like a gasket is going bad. I know im no expert with cars but the only connection between the clutch/transmission and the rear axle is the drive shaft, but no fluid runs down it. there should be a little plug towards the top of the rear bell housing that you can take out. if u dont wanna fix anything you could add more gear oil just to keep it lubed.

I'm leaking from the rear main seal, the drain behind my drive shaft, my bell housing doesn't really get noticeably dirty but if I wipe the area there is definitely noticeable leakage

Damn, Beardo. SOunds like you've blown out your pressure plate. Have you checked into the plug?
I don't think I've blown anything but I did check into the plug it's kind of hard to access where it is but I did get a finger in their and it felt smooth around the edges and I couldn't get a good look at it so I used a mirror- like one of those dental mirrors and it looked alright I guess

@beardo, keep that transmission full of oil if it's leaking, I had a bearing go out in my getrag 260 before I found out about that, I definitely saved it but now I have a grind noise at a certain RPM. thankfully getrag 260's are tanks and I drive an e30 :D

also you might have to jack your car up to get to the fill hole. there should also be labling on the side of your transmission saying what kind of oil or indicating, if not make sure through other means.

the basic test for a lot of transmissions like this is to simply stick your finger in and if you feel liquid at the bottom of your finger then there's enough oil in there.

I drive a damn Mazda now. Looks good the way I have it on racing coils , magna flows but this thread made me sad. Before I became a father , I used todrive my 1978 Z28 Camaro. Small block 350, 4 speed Muncie. Centerforce clutch. Man then once I blew the tranny (not to be confused with tranny) I had a rebuilt piece of crap Saginaw GM put in. Revered the damn linking rods and well- the baby seat in the back looked good and all but. Oh well.....

Depressing story of mine. Nice suburu holmes

250 miles down and its getting better and better.
At first it felt like the pucks on the clutch disk were uneven but now its smoothing out.
I think the guy who did the job didn't tighten the exhaust back to the hanger. It clatters. I guess ill jack it up and look.
