18/6 vs 24/0 VEG

Hey hey fellow growers, so im currently doing 2 grows in 2 seperate home made tents and i thought id put the 18/6 vs 24/0 veg to the test. Now personally out of both i prefer 18/6 why you may ask? In my case it all boils down to humidity, even though i have a humidifier in both rooms it only ever reaches 40% humidity when the lights are on both rooms have perfect temps of 75f and both seem to be doing ok, but what i have noticed is when the lights go off on the 18/6 the humidity shoots to 70% and by the time the lights come back on i can see a noticible difference in the way the plants look after been in the dark with nice humidity they look so much healthier also the plants in the 18/6 are more bushy and have so much new growth everyday, were as the 24/0 are alot taller with leafs and nodes quite far apart and they dont look as good, thats my honest opinion, personally i think the humidity and dark help revitalise the plant ready to start there next day in the light. What do you think guyd cause i know alot of ppl swear by it but my plants always look there best after the night cycle, heres some pics 17 days old

I sort of did this same experiment and i def agree with you.
I found that 18/6 seemed to make my girls happiest aswell.
Ive read that the plants dont need a sleep period but im not so sure. Maybe your right tho that it is environmental too.

Yeah i dont think plants do sleep but i think to much light starts to make my 18/6 a little droop but soon as theyve had there 6 hours of dark amd high humidity they look amazing each n every time were as the 24/0 just droop and keep drooping until there feed, then they perk up and repeat the cycle, so to me 18/6 repeats the cycle faster amd they seem to flurish more, i think the 6 hours of high humidity does them so much good, yh the 24 do grow faster in length but for me thats no good, hence why ill be switching to 18/6 for both

To save you and your parents spending time and a couple of hundred thousand on horticultural studies ...I'll make it brief for you
...during the day when the temps right and the light is shining plants make sugars that are then stored down below, toward the roots, at night in the 4 hours you give them 'sleep' those sugars are released, the plant grows, to start the next day a little bigger than the day before...
....just like you do!​

Vostok was just being a bit sarcastic I've never personally done a 24hr veg cycle. Anything indoors for me is usually going outdoors in short order. So I usually try and time my veg cycle to match the suns. On a side note with my outdoor girls I liked to observe them at sundown. The leaves droop down and it visibly looks like It's winding down for the night. During really late hours especially.

Lol yh i kinda gathered, and yeah thats what i notice with mine but then they always look so good when the light cycle starts again, it might be my first grow but im spending alot of time doing little things like misting my room twice a day to mimic light rain again i see reaction to this too, i find it all quite exciting and very rewarding when you see your babys growing good

I respect the fact that you are doing a side by side experiment.

I am of the belief that plants do need a dark period. When we grow indoors we try our best to mimic the plants natural environment, so to do that we need to make the sun go down. Like Vostok mentioned above there are prosses that happen in the dark so give them dark. I veg 18/6 but I do run clones and seedlings on 24/7 for the first two weeks or so.

One other thing I forgot to mention is you need to be carefully about misting your plants under lights because the water droplets can act like little magnifying glasses and burn spots in the leaves.

Yh i try not to get to too much water on the leafs when i spray plus its a mist pump so the waters extremly fine, as for the 24/0 ive changed it bk 18/6 it does seem like they react better to a dark period, im just glad im able to experiment and do everything properly, im only interested in growing for hobby and free smoke im not botheree if i fuck a few plants up along the way its all a learning curve

Way back when I started growing I would plant a bunch of seeds from mexi/brick weed and do all kinda experiments with them just to see what would happen. I would over feed, under feed on purpose so I could see what it looked like and to learn how to fix it. I would fuk with the pH to see the effects. I did too many things to mention, if it could be done to them I did it lol. We can read about stuff all day but untill you see it in person you just don't know.

Keep experimenting, it's the best way to learn.

Thats so true ive defo noticed that everyone has there own way of doing things i might take your best advice it may not work for me. My only problem is my grow space is limited in height so i cant really veg over 4 weeks im growing indicas, so far theyve stayed short but they are so bushy for only been 18 days old, 4 nodes high, ive topped like 6 but im not to sure what happens after topping? Does it add new branches or does it add energy to branches that are already growing?

I've done every veg cycle. 24/0 causes stress imo. Plants need to be able to go into their phytochrome state during sleepy time. I veg 20/4. I run 730nm at lights out to induce pfr state faster.

When i did this post i expected a real mix of people who swear by both but it seems most agree a dark cycle is defo beneficial

I always encourage people to do this when growing plants of any kind, you'd be amazed at what things you'd find out that aren't taught in a book, not to mention a better grasp on how the plants work. Good advice. Just like everything in life, certain things cater to certain people differently, tastes, preferences, etc.
I agree with you all, in fact I don't like an 18/6 cycle either, I prefer a 15/9 cycle, but I have clones that go outside in the summer so I need them to NOT flower immediately, also I don't have a humungous flowering room so the extra vegged time I don't need, as I prefer the girls to be under a half meter in height when triggered or I gotta tie them down
