How to guarantee certain yields

Hello all

So I'll be looking to average a yield of 2 ounces per month (one for me, one for my dad who is sick but can't get a med license). Since the average plant takes about 4.5 to 5 months from seed to dry, and my grow tent only has room for about 3 decent size plants at a time, I would need an average of 3.33oz per plant.

I used to grow a few years ago, and just at a beginner level averaging about 2.5oz per plant.

Without getting too advanced, can you guys think of any tips that would increase my yields to get closer to that goal of 3-4oz per plant?

Also, I buy feminized seeds as I don't have the room or time to snuff out males. I usually buy high quality seeds (ex tangerine dream, super lemon haze, kushberry, etc) but thinking I might have to start growing 2 plants that are more known for big yields, then have my 3rd plant the sativa treat.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

buy clones, or take the time to find some keepers, then make your own clones. do a perpetual garden and always have weed.

Hey thanks for the reply! you can buy clones? i'm assuming it would be illegal therefore I would have to know people who grow? I don't know anybody who does.

Also, there was a law passed a year or so ago in my country that if you have 6 or more pot plants, its mandatory 6 months jail....so i'm looking to stay below that number at all times

6 or more MATURE or Flowering plants? Or 6 total? You keep a mom and take clones off her. If you have a card to grow. it should be legal to buy clones with your card.

First evaluate your setup? You gave us no details on that....What size light ya running?Hydro?Soil? Gonna try topping?Fimming?LST?Gonna leave it alone?What strain's high yielders?

5 months? that seems like a damned long average. Very first grow i did i did 4 weeks veg and 8-9 weeks flowering, under 1 week drying (just under 3.5 months total) and each plant yielded 2 ounces.

Unless you are using poor lighting, then 5 months should EASILY see you 3-4 ounces.

More details though. We can only give you our best advice if we know what conditions you are working with. do you have an HPS, what size, are you using a tent, or a small cupbouard, etc etc etc. All of these are important factors.

I would look it over, I bet it is 6 flowering plants. I could be wrong. But if you have a strain you like. you can also just take clones of clones. That's how I do.
you find that one strain. grow it till you can get a clone. take a clone off, it takes a week or so to root. the other plant is in tent for a week already. as the clone veg's( doesn't have to be in your tent, can be in a closet or elsewhere. your flowering the other. when it's done. do the same thing with the one that has been vegging. if you time them right. you can have a plant coming out as a plant goes in and a month later. have another swap. so you have 3 in the tent and 3 in veg at all times.

Right but with the proper research and implementation you can pull 5-6 zips from a plant (which sounds alot better if ya got caught BTW)and rotate one in one out start new one....Just my .2

Grow light = T5s, and CFLS
Flower Light - 500wHPS
I've only ever used soil (well tried coco once but I obviously did it wrong and killed my plant), soil mix is typically Miraclegrow (or equivalent), earthworm castings and perlite. I usually use a 3 gallon pot, and last 2 grows I've topped my plants twice (so there were 4 main colas), but that was the most i've attempted at topping...like I said i'm still new so didn't want to stress her too much.
I did a tiny bit of LST, though it was more just to spread them out.

I thought there were specific strains that were known for yielding high amounts? Just off the top of my head AK47, AK48, Critical +, Northern Lights, etc.

Here are some pics of an old grow I did, you can see the strings at the side mainly just used to spread out the branches (this was Kings Kush I believe, probably got about 2.5oz or maybe even less I don't remember lol)

there are strains that yield high, but you have to have all the variables in place to maximize that. Training is 1 of them, especially if you want those bigger yields. lighting is another. with a 500 watt, I would keep my plants around 3-4 ft max, probably look into scrog method.
that plant looks good for what you are working with.

Miracle gro is trash...If ya give me a min I'll pull you up some link's on good soil mixes or somebody else might....Build a second veg rm or spot and run your t5 and cfl's for veg......You sure its 500 watt and not 600? High Yielding or not if the environment you create is less then ideal so will be your result's

I have seen quite a few people use scrog, my only question is.....how do they water those plants? I always have to take my plants out of the tent to water them because of run off, and then I also flush once during flowering. So it just seems like it would be difficult to get to a plant at the back of my tent that is trapped in a net lol but there must be ways I'm not thinking of as so many do it

Its not always MG but its whatever is at the local gardening center/home hardware lol. Do gardening centers sell soil that has less bad stuff in it that MG? the only thing with special soils like Fox Farm Ocean is that I don't really live near places that stock those types of mediums. I also don't want that delivered as it could be a little suspicious.

I was thinking of the perpetual grow, where while I have 3 plants flowering I have 2 growing, just to keep me under that 6 plant limit, but I have only the one tent, so the veg room would have to be outside of the tent where I would have to ensure no light leaks and other factors that could be tough.

I'm not sure what type of HPS bulb I have in it right now as its packed away, but I imagine I could just go and buy a good quality one for not much money? And now that you mention it....bulbs usually don't come in 500w do they lol, it might be 400w, but I also try to put CFLs in my flower room in the spots the HPS light doesn't reach.

you can get some peat moss,perlite,ewc and mix it up, all from HD. or find a good potting soil with no pre fertilization. you want to be able to control feedings.
