Might be an odd question but have eventually decided to order a 3000k cxa 3070 from aliexpress for $40 and the seller says the led is 3070-30F-AB which if this is true would be great but when i receive the led is there any way i can know which bin the led it is?

thanks.

I put a pic up of side by side here somewhere. The only problem is it was a z4 beside an AB that may or may not have been genuine. It seems from other discussions that it isn't really possible to tell. I looked at those on aliexpress some time ago, couldn't recall finding a bin number? Like to be wrong though, genuine and top bin, that is a much cheaper source for me as well (not that I need more cob short term but i did fry one that needs replacing sometime)

Yeah, ok, generic advertising? I don't see the particular bin either? If they don't actually say AB most definitely wont get AB.. not that that is a bad price for the lower bins in some places.. (those iv'e found).

But- watch em', if it wasn't for a picture a piece of corn could arrive! ;-)

Here's the link to the 1 i bought. http://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/Freeshipping-1pcs-Cree-XLamp-CXA3070-led-74-117W-COB-EasyWhite-5000K-Warm-White-3000K-LED-Chip/815938_2052849889.html

i emailed and asked what the bin was and they said it was ab bin so thought i would take a chance, if this is genuine it would be a decent source for the high bin 3070's so hopefully i'll get lucky. Anyway, even if its not the ab bin it is still cheaper than anywhere i can find to ship a single 3070 to the uk.

They say it's both 5000k and 3000k which makes no sense.

If I had to guess, they're selling you the 5000k AB bin.

(3070-30F-AB-NOH) is this a hybrid part number? Its obviously not correct.

CXA3070-0000-000 N0H AB 50F = 5000K

CXA3070-0000-000 N00 AB 30F = 3000k

Im pretty sure thats going to be a 5000K and its priced right according to octopart.

I would have just ordered from newark. That should be a good veg light, maybe too much blue for flower.

You guys got balls buying those from Ali. Funny thing is Veros and XNovas have a UPC code on them that if you can scan they'll tell you a boat load of info about your COBs. I'm surprised CREE doesn't provide that feature on their COBs which would make buying from places where there is no BBB much easier. Good Luck.

Talk to Supra about that NOH designate Epic. I think he knows the story on that.

I forgot about that, I was just going by the part #'s in the spec sheet from Cree. Now that I look it over again the NOO seems to mean the lowest CRI option available while the NOH represents the 80 CRI option, for the 3000K the 80 CRI is the lowest so it possible they are both. The easiest way to find out is when it arrives plug it and see what colour it is, but I doubt Ali-whatever is the cheapest source for top bin anything. The CXA3070-0000-000N0HAB50F is a mid CRI mid bin COB at the same price as newark thats why I think its what he is getting. But besides colour there is no way to test what bin he is getting. Really though they will all grow plants.

Good info. Vero available options and pricing are attractive for home builders aren't they. All said and done I would have saved a lot, just to get some experience, starting 'cheap'. I know it's all in the specs but building 'something' forces us newbs to learn (something)

Think i'd start with Vero and cheap drivers, maybe even 'chinese' cobs/ arctic h/s.. to build one and get it up and going (It can always be used to veg) I didn't, stuff takes so damn long to get here no point waiting another 4/5 weeks, seem to have one of everything haha - was a pretty expensive exercise and do have a few spare parts :wall: lol..
.

Got a 5K AB locally, it was around $60us. Still, single, is cheaper than Newark etc. We have pretty good import allowances, I know many countries don't.

If it is truly AB bin, I expect it will be a 5000K and you will be able to tell without even opening the package. The 5000K has a pale yellow color and the 3000K has an orange color.

3000K Z2 vs Z4 (The wavy surround has been updated, thnxNc87)

Also notice how much easier you can see the traces inside the Z4 bin

I just received my z2 3000k's I ordered from digikey. They came in bubble wrap and are the darker more orange color. They are smooth around the edge and have 3070n on the side. I will post a pic when I get home. Are you saying there's a chance I got ab?

Good info NC, sounds like Cree has updated their Z2s so we can no longer use that method to distinguish them. Can you clearly see the gold traces inside the COB?

I think so. I remember looking last night while I was soldering them and I could see rows of dots in there if that's what you're referring to.

Interesting, the 3070 AB's I got, also had 3070N on the side. I glanced at the spec sheet for the 3070's and saw nothing related so I thought it was just a general label. Looking at the COB photos here and there's no label and I have no idea what this means lol.

From Nc87s info, I believe all the CXAs have their model # printed on them now and all have smooth surrounds. The pics I posted must have been the last of an older batch. I suspect all the ABs have the model # printed on them because the ABs are a new addition to the line. Z4 was previously the top bin.

I'm just hoping that with the seller having pretty high reputation with selling cree leds it's going to be what they say but can only play the waiting game now until it turns up to know whether it is the 3000k. I did take a risk buying it from here just hope I havn't been ripped off cos i was very sceptical before but now even more so lol
