outdoor hang drying (experienced replies only please)

Although I completely agree with everyone about the sun degrading or "bleachng" the buds while hanging outdoors, I still find the smoke is Fucking awesome after anyway. I just use pine/evergreen trees and hang/lay them inside the tree where it will shade most of the direct sun, but still allow adequate airflow to the plants. Good luck dude!

Even indirect(reflected) sunlight will bleach the buds and affect potency. I'm speaking from experience. I hung plants in a greenhouse one year and draped black plastic over them to below the buds lowest point. The kholas showed quite a lot of bleaching after two weeks. BTW, I've cut and hung two of my plants so far. I'll cut four more Saturday. These are outside. The greenhouse plants are about two weeks later.

I thought the flavor was degraded. Potency less so. Appearance was damaged the most. I smoked field dried Mexican weed in the late 60s and early 70s, until local home grown became available. it was like discovering Guinness after drinking piss all your life.

I know what you mean. Im in my early 30s and remember all the dirt weed in the us back in the late 90s. We used to call it mexican dirt weed. Obviously there was good strains too but that garbage was all over

You ever see the difference between the green of fresh cut grass and the light tan colored grass that has been sitting in the sun a bit?

^^^ True that the color fades for sure. Let's say that you waited until the plant was mature to pull, and you semi shade it or even dried in the sun, it will still be a high quality smoke none the less (from my experience, and I do it every year).

I prefer my smoke to be the best it can be. True, yours is probably good. Just not the best possible.

Well im thinking of clipping all the fan leaves off and cleaning them up pretty good but keeping the plant together stem and flower wise...or should i really take the branches off?

I would leave the fan leaves on during the hang dry.
The fan leaves will protect the buds from dust, dirt, bugs, hair, airborne clothes fibers and indirect sunlight.

True. Back in the day Columbian Gold was sun dried and that
smoke was killer!

We used to call it "one hitter quitter".
Take one hit and it tastes so bad you don't want another!

We just called it headache weed. But, since it was all that was around, we still paid $10 a baggie(before Ziplocks).

I'm sure yours is good too, but also not the best possible, regardless how you dry it. I wish that was the biggest problem growers had to face, a lil degrading of the Trichomes aren't a big deal. If you pull early, it may even help them to mature a bit more while they dry outdoors, just my 2 cents. Granted a dark ventilated room would be best. We shouldn't get hung up on drying locations when Guerrilla growing, worry most about a successful harvest with out detection.

All I am saying is that I put a little extra effort into preserving quality. Note that I included the "possible" in my previous post. Nearly a decade ago I built a secure shed to cure my buds in. It is the best I can do. I'm sure you are doing your best, as well.

Nice, yeah I would love to be able to dry mine at my place, but it's just not an option. I always do what I can to keep them dry, ventilated and out or direct sun anyway.
