1000 watt hps may not heat your space too much, but will do wonders for flowering. The more light the better in this hobby. As stated CFL's are good for a first grow, but you will quickly find the more and better light, the better results. I am LED all the way now, cause I like the lower energy costs, no heat issues in my small tent, and not being paranoid a hot bulb or ballast fire is going to burn my house down.

I have used T5 HO's for a complete run a few times. The buds were airy but not bad, trich formation was good. If temps are an issue then the T5's will work but they are 4' long (mine) so for just a few plants i think a 400 hps would be great. That was my first hid light and i did really well, getting 400 grams from 6 white russian. Fyi i used the t5's as side lighting for that one. I would say your biggest hurdle is tent size, kinda small for anything substantial. Good luck though, your off and running at least.

Welcome.

If you are like most of us you will start with planting seeds and eventually want to start cloning. So here's a few pointers from an OG --
*The plant giving up cuttings is called the mother plant or just mom.
*Moms should be at least 5 weeks in dirt before they give up cuttings.
*Cuttings taken from the top of a mom tend to be a bit faster growing while those from the bottom will often root faster.
*Use a cloning dome with a heat mat underneath. (This raises temps only 5-10 degrees but greatly increases rooting.)
*Keep 1/2 inch of water sitting on dome floor at all times. The clones need the humidity, eh?
*Keep the plastic sliders closed until you see roots.
*Use a spray bottle to mist the clone leaves 2-3 times a day.
*I recommend noobys use the larger 2-inch jiffy pellets for clones.
*Jiffy pellets over rockwool as the pellets are darker and easier to see how wet they are (very important!).
*DO NOT OVERWATER PELLETS! Maybe 1/2 oz. water every 3-4 days is plenty to keep pellets moist.
*Try indica or indica-dominant strains as they clone easier.

That's just a few insights I've accumulated over the years regarding cloning. Unless you are rich it can be expensive continually shelling out $10 a seed. Also, I've found that 20/4 is a better light schedule than 18/6.

Good luck, BigSteve.

PS - I wish I would have thought of cannabis as a solution to an ex who was bipolar. She was so wacky I was afraid of making her worse.

I forgot the most important thing about a journal - write down everything you do to each plant. By keeping track of things like transplanting dates you can compare different approaches and be able to see which is most helpful. Don't forget that you have to individualize each plant. Means that if I put 5 GigaBud seedlings into dirt today I would mark them "GB 9-12-A, GB 9-12-B", etc.

Being a grower is basically just a glorified farmer. Farming is nurturing at it's most basic. I would think (non-PC alert!) your gender will stand you well. BigSteve.

Want to just jump to led, but need one that actually works!! please sugest some good models

also... If I have very few pistils, is it not time to flower?(even if im force flowering) Are blooms supposed to appear during veg? Noob q's im sure. sorry guys

I use all Kessil LED. Someone suggested these and I thought they were overpriced. They have since come down a good bit. I have an H350 Deep Purple, an H350 magenta, and the H150 in all four colors. However 1-2 H350's are sufficient for 1-3 plants. 1
H350 will do a gorgeous plant if youre on a budget, and you could use CFL as side light. Actually the perfect light for you would be the new H380.

Pistils just indicate sexual maturity. Im sure that your clones came from a mature plant so yes you will see sets of pistils. It doesnt mean its time to flower. You can flower when your ready. Best of luck cutie.

k so the kessil is beautiful. but is it a significant energy saver?? i really like the suggestion, and am planning on buying it as soon as you answer, so let me know.
And they are Blue Dream, its a relief, i guess i just saw someone elses and got jealous my buds arent there yet lol.
is there anything pistils can tell me about the condition of my plant or smoke of my bud(assuming all else is well)
Such as length or frostiness?
is it ok to smell some dank then it go away then smell some dank then it go away again(each transition taking about a day) does i have to do with me feeding them well and then not feeding soon enough? Thanks again all:)

Yeah no man the bipolar is way awesome with the sativas, but DONOT go with indica(im sure diff for everyone) it seemed to make it worse when it was indi unless it was night time.

Looks like you have lots of algae growing on your cubes. Is it possible to cover the top to keep the light off? Perhaps a styrofoam plate cut to fit.

watts are watts it takes a minimum of 100w a plant most people shoot for 200w a plant
just rule of thumb they can be grown with less but to make it worth your time and effort

and it really depends on when you are smelling it ........... before lights out it is heat or they are thirsty ( usually from my experience )
if its at lights on then this just happens its normal

Yes, Kessil LED use a 1/4 of the power of HID or less. Biggest Advantage to LED's are:
1. Super low power consumption.
2. Little heat output (equals lower grow room temps)
3. Bulb lifespan (40,000-50,000 hours)
4. LED Light penetrates deeper into the plant than CFL.
The Biggest disadvantage is the high price, all will agree! When I first posted for a good LED light, and someone suggested an H350, I scoffed at the $250 price tag! I was like no way and bought a 135 watt LED Ufo instead. I Immediately realized how it penetrated down into my plants instead of bathing the surface in soft CFL light. Instead of the fluffy CFL buds I got on my first grow, I got denser, sticky, nugs with the LED. So I ebayed that UFO put few extra bucks and got a Kessil H350 magenta, which put the UFO to shame with 90 watts compared to a 135 watts. Kessil are very quality and effective, but there are better more powerful LED lights. Just depends on how much you want to invest. I have had to build my Kessil setup a light at a time, as I am fairly poor. How many plants do you plan on growing at a time? Kessil's are uniquely LED spotlights and are used as supplimental lighting, or your primary lighting of you accumulate a few. LED will release you from the daily annoying battle of repositioning CFL's with a few inches of your plant. They will also help eliminate the high temps of having a bunch of CFL's. As for energy consumption consider this....An H150 uses 36-40 watts, and is equivalent to a 150 watt HPS or MH. CFL's are 23 watts each, So the Kessil is using less power than two spirally CFL bulbs. You'd need 7 CFL's using a total of 161 watts of power to get the same effect as a Kessil H150 using 36 watts.

It is not either. Sometimes growth has a silvery whiteish appearance. Everything looks green and healthy to me. But wheres all your light?
