Pool Shock in cloners for 100% success EVERYTIME.

It used to be 100% for me too, I'm not sure what happened, but something in the air or the water Temps all of a sudden changed and I got a few mushy stems, it sucks. If I needed 6 clones, I'd take 6 and all would root in 7 days or less, I never used anything but tap, now somethingisn't right, I've even ran my system through the ssanitize option on the dishwasher, scrubbed with bleach, changed water every few days. No luck this round, I'm on week 3 of cloning now and only 9/13 are hanging in there. Hoping the shock will do the trick :/

non PH'ed tap water only in aero....100%

^^^ what bob said, straight tap water, mine is high in chlorine so don't add or filter it, straight in, 10-14 days, pull clones, clean it and put it away until the next cloning round, easy & reliable, wouldn't bother with any other method now. It's not even a case of success rate any more with aero cloning, it's down to selecting the best/healthiest root structure out of the batch...

I use food grade 35% H2O2 to clean & sanitize between uses

I've been reading about adding this pool shock to your cloner. Everywhere I read people were getting 100% success even newbies at growing were getting great results.

You should read about the newbs as well as experienced who use plain tap water and get 100% success.

Hmmm..... If you have algae or your cloner isn't kept clean between uses, then I guess I would feel the need to search for a chemical to keep my plants from rooting on their own.

New strain maybe? I've found some harder to clone than others.

It is a new strain, tangilope. 3 weeks ago I took some cuts and after 6 days 7/9 rooted. Then the other 2 got stem rot, a day later the roots were brown on the rooted cuts. I clean the cloner every 3-5 days when I change the water. So I recut all the clones, cut all the roots off, took couple more clones to add in cause I lost a few more and restarted the process. Started adding h2o2. 7 days later 2 have really small roots, 3 had mushy stems, so I threw them away, I have 9 left now at 3 weeks. Cloner is clean as a whistle as always. Even at 3 weeks my clones look okay, I just don't get what's happening all of a sudden. It's a bubble cloner. I had a water pump with an air line attachment, but yesterday I swapped it out for an air pump and two air stones. Hmm. Mother plants are healthy and I've been doing water cloning for 10 years at least and no problems..

When the cuttings got the slimy stuff, I wasnt keeping track of the Temps, last week I added a thermometer to the cloner and was keeping the Temps around 65-70 to avoid the slime, but I know clones like warmer water for rooting, but so does the slime. So now I'm keeping Temps at 70-75 and hoping for the best. Not sure what else to do because eeverything has been smooth until now

Yeah, sounds strange, not like the first time you've cloned these. I've run it at 65-70 & 70-75 one round when all I had was my veg cabinet to throw the res into, with the lighting in there, temps were higher. Still no problems though, not like you're in there for any length of time.

Not a lot of variables, something in your water maybe? You could try filtered water just to rule out any problems with your current water source, sounds like about the only thing you haven't tried...

For sure, it's really bugging me because I didn't expect the clones to take this long and I should be flowering now, it sucks. I just picked up some spring water that's 6.7 pH and 60ppm. My tap water does suck, but it used to work fine, I think the tap water is getting worse over time though. It's 8ph now and 260ppm, but I was phing it to around 6. Hopefully this spring water works or I'm out of ideas. The reason I was looking into the pool shock is because it's the same as ezclone clear rez solution, but hopefully the bottled water takes care of the problem

Worth a try for sure. Do you filter your tap water at all? Mine's high in chlorine, but I put one of those brita filters on my basement tap and haven't had any water problems. Using more water now so I'm going to put an RO system in and be done with it. It's like the most essential thing they need to grow, worth giving them good water/ph.

Don't use that filtered water for the cloner but in your case it's worth a try, if your water's bad enough it's about the only thing you have left to try. Filtered water for a soil grow is a must imo.

For sure, it's the only thing left to try, I also upped the air output on the air pump for more oxygen in the water. I really want an ro system but here in cali I would feel bad because of the drought. There is a ro dispensing machine that's close by that I'll be using for my future grows though, I always had great tap water until I moved, and I've had alot of problems since, I thought my tap could be tthe problem at first, but now iI'm almost certain. I'm just glad the ro machine only costs 20 or 30 cents a gallon so it shouldn't be too much of extra costs, but it'll definitely be more of a hassle not being able to use the tap. I hear good things about ro so it'll be worth it, especially if it clears up all the problems I've been having.

Hey, AP. Have you had success with the pool shock solution? I've been using hydroguard with power clone for the last few years with about a 90% success rate, which is more than fine for me. Lately, though, that percentage has been dropping. I do sterile hydro for my flowering plants by using Dutch Master Zone, but this calcium hypochlorite thing has me fascinated. I ordered a pound from Amazon, but wanted some trusted feedback on results before it gets here. Thanks!

Alot of additives just to get cuttings to root. I'm glad my free tap h2o, ph to 6.0, and using dip n grow gives me 100% every time.

No aero cloner, no rock wool, no nutrients, no heater, no root hormone, no ph adjustment.
Pretty much cut, shave, put them in some coco, lights on and roots eventually come out. I've had about 1 or 2 not sprout out of 100.
Takes a bit longer in winter. When I do see roots I give mycorrizae and roots fill my 1 litre air pots.
I actually prefer slower rooting because lack of space to veg

Wow, that post has to be at least a year and 1/2 old. Actually, since I started using poolshock around that time, I'm back to 100% success and haven't lost a clone since! The shock WORKS KILLER. 1gram in 1 gallon of water to make solution, then use 30ml of the solution per 5gallons of cloner water. I'm cloning with aeroponic cloners since then, which is what I always used prior to the bubble cloner so I went back to it after the bubble cloner started acting up. Not sure if that helped a bit as well. I run the cloner 24/7 for weeks, even a month non stop before with crazy water Temps. All still root with healthy white roots and the cloner stays squeaky clean, highly recommend. It's also Hella cheap and will last you years for $6

old post but still relevant. just fyi. regular bleach works well too. I use a cap or two full for my 15gl in the aero cloner. never any problems and pretty much 100% success.

i think the critical thing is that both shock and bleach keep the "baddies" away from roots and it seems they do their thing faster because of it. good luck.

No problem at all brother. 2x a week is when I add it, 3-4 days apart. Just tap water, sometimes I'll use clonex, but I'm not sure if it works any better with or without it, they all seem to root the same

Just wanted to drop by to say thanks, AP. The pool shock is amazing! Everything is rooting beautifully with thick, hairy white roots. I'm keeping my aero cloners' water at about 85 now, and man, do they root quick at this temp. I bought a couple of digital aquarium thermometers so I can see the water temp at all times. I also bought a top-of-the-line aquarium heater because the weather is getting cooler, and I want to maintain that constant 85 degrees water temp. I almost can't believe how well this works. I overdid it a little with the shock in the beginning as I was super paranoid about the slime rearing its ugly head again, so about half of my 36 clones got a bit fried on some leaves, but they still rooted great and are recovering quickly in flower. On my second batch I'm using the recommended amount, and all looks great. I've been struggling for months to keep my grow op full, and I've lost thousand of dollars with this recent cloning problem. If you're ever in Chicago, I'll buy you a beer
