Inequality and the USA: A nation in denial?

AGAIN, I have absolutely no problem with stories like this- except that she isn't stupid, sinking, never work a day in her life but buy a Ferrari every month rich, is she? AND WITH A CAREER TRACK LIKE THAT, SHE NEVER, EVER WILL BE!

So why is it that a few who already are stupid stinking rich think it's okay for the rest of the country to subsidize the wasteland of their lives on such a mass scale?

Because we tolerate it, and even celebrate it.

I'm not mad at mere millionaires. Most of them earned it. I plan to be one of them soon, in fact. I'm upset with the recent phenomenon of the extreme wealth inequality of the .01%, who got their money (on average, 27 million yearly!) with the help of tax breaks and are keeping it through same.
You have no idea what you are talking about.

Billionaires have WEALTH, not money. They have ASSETS... ASSETS are the things that provide other people JOBS...

Bill Gates is a Billionaire because Microsoft is worth a shitload of money. And it is because it brings in a shitload of money every year. If it went broke tomorrow bill gates wouldnt make the top 100 millionaires next year.

Be happy that if you work hard that you can be wealthy. YOU STILL HAVE TO WORK HARD!! Sorry, but true!

After clicking the link in your sig, where you and another RIU member accuse each other of being rapists for about 6 pages of a thread
https://www.rollitup.org/t/the-worlds-most-hyped-and-overrated-things.818864/page-12#post-10754902

i kind of get the impression you're not a very sharp guy
then you go and take my above post literally and post a snazzy graphic to illustrate your objection

nice twist bro
you're pulling my leg right, no one can be that dense .. well maybe a rapist ?
I don't give a single fuck about your straw men or personal problems. Those are the facts, it's a complicated issue, and your dumbing it down to "hur duurr they're just lazy!" simplifies it to an extent only a retard would believe.

So it doesn't surprise me that you do.

No you imbecile i was agreeing with you to a large extent
and mockingly saying "people are lazy" as that is the typical thing that is said by those who love the system so much

i better nip this in the bud now, or you will accuse me of being a rapist for 6 pages lol

First part is stating the obvious, albeit vaguely. There are nearly infinite "something different" to do with whatever resources one may have; which thing is the right thing?

And i can't even ask that question, because the only ones who've ever answered it, are either trying to sell me something so they can profit, and not actually trying to help... or they give an answer that isn't compatible with my situation, because i've already lost the most important resources (health and drive), and refuse to support anything that i can identify is part of the problem.

I reject the idea that doing the same thing so many of us have already figured out doesn't work, is the right way.

And most people apparently have a pretty delusional definition of "the right way." Most don't seem to realize how lucky they've been, to not have to encounter problems that had no available solution, i.e. "stuff you can't change."

When "stuff you can't change" has eliminated all the feasible options for a minimally tolerable life, that's just that, i guess.

A healthy person who still believes a miserable life is worth living, or still believes their insufficient wage will lead to prosperity, or is too afraid to commit suicide, you mean.

I've been struggling against problems i can't fix, for 2 decades now. I'm fucking tired of it, and i feel very unequal.
What do you propose?

Should we all give up?

I would love for something to be done, vast organization. Something like everyone who feels they are underpaid calls out of work for a week straight.

If too few do it there will just be a lot of new job openings.

But 20% of hourly wage workers and service providers not showing up to work would pretty much grind everything to a standstill.

I know the restaurant I worked at when I was in high school was put out when 2 of the staff called out on the same day.

That's 2 out of 30 people.

If 8 of them called out they couldn't operate.

now just imagine if daddy found out about your proclivities with men and cut you off not 20%, but 100%.

I understand wealth and assets. It sounds like you think the rich keep money under a mattress just to deny food to the poor.

I do wish you actually had a clue. Then you would realize that wealth can be created and you would go create some rather than worry about how much someone else has.

You are suggesting everyone under the corrupt financial system go build more wealth, effectively perpetuating said system, instead of actually fixing the corrupt financial system

Buck, not everyone depends on their parents in to adulthood.

I realize your biggest fear is no more support from the in laws, but many of us have no such fear.

It's hard work, but it is liberating to stand on your own. You should try it.

There is only so much to go around, aka money supply- and guess who has it all already? Or are you still trying to deny that we've entered the greatest guilded age in human history? These are unstable by nature- all the obviously distorting drivel we're hearing to the contrary is coming from seriously shortsighted folks- similar to the fools who thought that internet business need never turn a profit.

I'm railing against it early in the hope that I can lessen the blow when the inevitable crash happens. And it will.

I have plenty of 'clue' to go around about that, I'm sorry you aren't doing your homework.

Exactly! Let's fix our broken system. I doubt anyone here would seriously argue the system doesn't need repair.

Nobody promised anything to anyone, and nobody is arguing that

But if you could put yourself in someone else's shoes and feel the slightest bit of empathy for fellow Americans, I think you might find yourself in a better position to argue because you won't be so hostile or biased when it comes to someone outlining obvious generational differences

Boomers could pay for college with a summer job, and if the job was decent enough, they could save up and wouldn't have to work during the school year. Gen Y and up have no such luxury. The option simply isn't available. They have to work during summer and during school, one job if they're lucky, which means it takes them twice as long at an exponential cost. On top of that, they have to take out loans to pay for it. College is the highest rising cost in America, and federal student loan debt has surpassed credit card debt as the leading national contributing factor to the nations debt;

Boomers could get hired right out of college working for a good company with full benefits, 401K, and paid time off. Gen Y and up have no such luxury. They're lucky if they land a job out of college that pays what they're told it would pay. They're "entry level", so businesses are justified in not living up to their expectations. They face "unpaid internships" that last 6-12 months just to gain enough experience (in other words, just so businesses don't have to pay them) to actually be considered entry level which is nothing short of criminal. But they've spent tens of thousands earning said degree to get into said field, you think they're going to turn that down now? Not when there are dozens of other viable candidates with just as much entry level experience than them waiting in line for the unpaid internship..

With that good job, boomers could buy a house and a pay for a car payment, insurance and gas (which has increased in price by ~8x), and still have a decent amount to put in the bank to save for the future. Gen Y and above have no such luxury. They're lucky if they can afford a single rented room. A short personal anecdote from my experience.. I had a friend who moved to the city and could only afford a "room" you could stand in the middle of and touch both walls with both hands at the same time opposite of each other, for $650/month!

Boomers could afford a house, a car, gas, insurance, school, and still have enough to warrant a trip to the bank at the end of the month to put the remainder into savings... Gen Y and Millennials can afford a room, a used car (+repairs), an empty tank every week, no insurance, no school without resorting to gov. assistance, and absolutely zero to put in the bank at the end of the week. No medical, no dental, no 401K... This is the norm, not the exception.

But it's all their fault..

They should just work harder, get more jobs, stop complaining..

You know what, man? I'm sick of hearing how I should act coming from a person who had everything given to them on a silver platter.

Know what else I'm sick of? Being told I feel I'm "entitled", when all I fucking want is an equal goddamn opportunity to work hard and earn what I'm worth, not what you think I'm worth. What you think means fuck all to me. Being told I'm "lazy" when I've had 2 jobs and still didn't make ends meet, and millions of other people haven't either.

The sad thing is my generation and yours will never see eye to eye on this issue because you grew up in a time of luxury and I didn't. You argue from that perspective having no understanding of how much bullshit exists within the phrase "just get a second job, that should do it..".

You exacerbate the resentment my generation holds towards yours not only for your actions, but for your ultimate, unyielding ignorance of this situation, and world affairs at large. There is no wisdom to be learned from the boomer generation. They were given paradise and fucking wrecked it in 3 decades.

I'd rather listen to someone who built themselves out of nothing and rose to the top without having to resort to the exploitation of others like so many others had to to get there.

You are fundamentally wrong. The feds keep printing more and more money. Our economy is bigger than ever. The pie keeps growing.

If you go buy land for 50K and build a house and it costs 100K to do it and you sell the house for 200K you just CREATED 50K out of nothing. That is how wealth is created.

Every age thinks it is the greatest age. I am nowhere near foolish enough to think that this tiny little sliver of history will be remembered at all, much less as the peak of anything.

No, I am suggesting that people pursue capitalism.

The financial system isnt corrupt, the government is corrupt and allows abusive tactics by the banks rather than letting the market decide. Banks dont make the rules, government makes the rules. You keep attacking the symptoms while ignoring the problems.

I am also suggesting you go find something to do that would earn you money instead of whining about how unfair life is on the internet. I guarantee the latter action will never make you wealthy.
