Will this pollen last?

Hey guys. Trying to store some pollen for use in about 2-3 months. I don't have a screen. What I did was get out as much of the other plant material as I could by sifting it through pantyhose. I then took a q-tip and picked up all the pollen I could get. At that point, I cut the tip of the q-tip off and put it into a zip-lock seed baggie. Is this going to hold in the freezer for 3 months assuming the pollen is dry? Totally new to collecting pollen so any help would be much appreciated. I don't see why it wouldn't work but maybe someone knows something which says otherwise that they can share. Thanks.

sounds like youve got your process pretty well on point, cant say as ive never done this personally but i have successfully stored pollen with lots of plant matter in the fridge inside a cheap baggie and it was still partially viable a month later so.... idk but probably

I recently pollinated and got seeds with 1 month old pollen just in a baggy in the fridge and 2 month old pollen in the freezer. I cut it with flour, it reduces/sucks up any moisture which is your main concern when storing it for a while. When I freeze it I stick the flour/pollen mix in the bag inside a jar filled with rice, it supposedly helps with moisture as well. I use about a 5 (flour) to 1 (pollen) ratio. it's supposedly good for about 6 months that way, haven't tried keeping it that long though, try and use it in the first 3 months to be safe.

Out of 15 plants I didnt get a SINGLE male. I would be grateful, but now I can't continue the strains.

If you want to germinate in a year or so, cut some sacks, put them in a baggy, and put them any where you want. Break them up when ready, and away you go. Pollen is some tough shit.

So are you saying that in your experience it is not nessisary to seperate the vegetative matter from the actual pollen, nor to freeze it? Just dry and store?

Yeah, would like to hear some experiences with longer term storage, I don't trust long term viability but haven't tried it either, would be nice to store it longer. I usually get enough pollen to selectively breed for a long time from a single plant. I have a ton of Jack The Ripper pollen from a huge male, maybe I'll just keep it around...

@polo the don , I don't bother sifting through any of the small plant matter, I just brush it on, the odd piece that comes out when I'm brushing I just remove it with tweezers.

Absolutely. For instance, take a sack and put it a baggie. Let it dry for 6 months. Take it out, smack any buds around that you hate, and away you go.

I guess one way to look at it, if the pollen isn't viable after a year, the pollination fails, you're only left with sensi bud to smoke, hmmmm, sounds like a loose-win situation

You can keep it viable in the freezer for just about forever.

I keep mine (whole dried flowers) in a plastic container with dessicant in the fridge. Have had some 2 years so far and still viable. When i want to use it, i sift it over the bud using a strainer. Or i use a paintbrush if i only want specific buds pollinated
