roots popping out under smart pots

hey guys,
was wondering if any of you outdoor growers can chime in on this.

about a week ago i posted a thread trying to find out wth was going on with my plants
( http://rollitup.org/t/heat-stress-causing-a-potassium-def.838302/ ) ... thought it might be a ph issue but I hadnt had the problem at all until it got really hot one day.

anyways, fast forward to today, I was sitting on the can doing some pretty deep thinking, like most of us do, lol and thought maybe my problem is my roots are growing thru the smartpots and hitting the dirt. Well i got around to checking it today and sure enough it was root city under there!

now I wouldnt have a problem with it if I had useable soil under the pots but I have some shit dirt there, like baby powder mountain shit dirt lol. there was a bunch of pine needles on the ground before I flattened it out so im sure the acid level of the dirt is pretty high? ...anyways I know what I need to do, dig some holes and fill it with more soil and drop the pots in and thats going to be a job now that my plants are pretty big already. Im afraid they arent getting the nutes from the supersoil and are looking for them in the crappy dirt underneath.

do u guys think I should go thru with that plan? some of them are preflowering so i need to act fast. Also..do you guys think this is what was causing my nute problem? anyone else have an experience like this?

Hey that was little too much for me too read, let me help you out by asking ssimple questions.

Whats your medium?
Whats your Water source?
Do you feed any nutirient in water?
How long has your plant been in that medium/pot?
Pot size?


All these questions will help determine your problems, highly doubt its the heat, cannabis thrives in heat.
Can be root bound, and depending on the quality of the dirt, it shouldnt really add to the problem. (Assuming im right on what i think is your problem)

Btw a picture would be nice :

Supersoil

Water from the county ran thru a tall boy sediment filter

Ewc teas about once every 2 weeks

Been in a 25 gallon smart pot for 2 months now

Last questions i promise, how long has the super soil been cooked for?
And other then those leaves, is the rest of the plant looking nice and healthy?

If your running 25g and your roots broke thru, im assuming your medium and plant is healthy, if your keeping it as organic as you can, then u cant really do much about ur ph or even check it with out taking it too a soil testing lab.

My advise, add compost wormcastings on top, stop the worm teas, focus on enzymes!!
Aloe coco water and super sprout teas!
Sometimes old leaves looks bad, but not too fear, as long as bew growth is happy and the plant is growing, ur all good.

Not as long as I wanted but it cooked for 6 weeks. I got pretty bad burn on one of my agent orange plants and one of my space candy plants. I never had an issue until after the heat, they all look super healthy prior. I'd like to think that the heat sent the roots looking for water thru the bottom of the pot and drank up whatever water it could find settling under neath the pot. That's a theory I have rolling in my head now lol. I'll look at it more tomorrow but figured I'd ask if it was a possibility and if anyone had the same situation. Thanks for the advice I'll def consider it. I'll post up some pics when I can.

Smart Pots rarely get rootbound, it's why they are called Smart. Put 5 or 6 bricks under each pot for support. that way the Smart Pots can function as designed by air pruning the roots ( which they are unable to do now because air can't get to the bottom of the Smart Pot ).

I personally like my roots to grow through into the ground that's the biggest upside to the smart pots imo. At the end of the year it sounds like Velcro being pulled apart when I move my pots.
