Once I get a prescription, am I allowed to "swap" with other MMJ patients?

Hi Yessica,

Okay in Canada, the only approved medical usage, or at least what you can buy legally, is the dried weed, not tinctures or edibles, etc...

You are not legally allowed to share your prescription with anyone.

I believe that, even to carry marijuana legally, it has to be in the container that it came from the lp in, at least that is my understanding.

Having said that, if you took your mj out of your container and put it in your friend's container, and they put theirs in yours, no one would know, would they? This is what I am thinking, anyways, I have been wondering about this because I may still have some illegal stash when my legal medical mj gets here, but I figure if I am going out of my house with it, I'll just stash it in whatever containers the new stuff gets here in.

I also doubt that it's illegal to make edibles with your legal mj. You can't buy it in that format, legally, within Canada, however, and you aren't allowed to share it, legally.

If you gave some edibles you made to a friend who had their own prescription I don't see how anyone could know whose mj was in the edibles.
oh crazy - I this is the first "quote" thing I've done - I thought this was also not allowed by the newbs...hahah. Neat.

It would be cool if there was a network that did this.
It would be!

I think if they don't want to smoke it, then you can let them know about alternatives and they can figure out how they want to approach it. They could try using a vaporizer if they are open to that.

You can supply with edibles, just be aware that if you get caught (which is probably unlikely, but you never know) that you risk losing your ability to obtain medical mj.

P.S. Can't Nanna bake? Isn't that what Nannas are for? Lol

It's not very labour intensive to make the butter, maybe they could do it themselves unless they are in a care facility though I'd imagine then that the risk of being caught supplying them with edibles might be higher.

I think on the forms somewhere there is a space where, if they apply, they can specify a caregiver who is going to be helping them with their prescription. It may be that you can be approved to take their mj and make it into edibles for them. You just can't legally make your prescription into edibles for them (or anyone else), or their mj into edibles for you (or anyone else).

This is all super helpful! Thanks! It may be lazy of me, but I would much rather get my information from the mouth of the experienced, rather than the words of an unknown...

Lazy because all I have to do is ask, instead of finding it out for myself...

I still prefer it my way...hahaha

I was just thinking, I would like to help some elderly people in town get a prescription. But they won't want to smoke dried buds. I, however, also have a prescription - and I enjoy smoking dried buds. I could always make butter for them with mine, and trade for theirs?

I just don't want Nanna to get in trouble...
Patients are free to consume their medication as they see fit, although the production of concentrates is prohibited in Canada. Cooking with MMJ is allowed though, and a recommended form of administration that is great with the elderly along with creams and salves. 'Trades' such as the one you describe would not be allowed, their medication is for their consumptions only and vice versa. You are also not authorized to prepare edibles and such and distribute them.

The one thing you could do, is hold information sessions with groups of elderly people as most will know very little about the technical medicinal details of marijuana. For any seniors that are interested in trying MMJ, you would be able to help guide them through the application process and provide them and their doctor with all the necessary info and forms. Once there are a few seniors at various retirement communities/seniors homes in town that are patients, you could always organize weekly cooking classes. They all bring their own medication, as do you, and you all cook together as you show them how mow make cannabutter and canna-oils, how they can cook with it, how to properly and safely administer an accurate dosage, etc. You could also have classes where you show them how to make their own medical cannabis creams and salves which are amazing for those suffering from joint pain and arthritis. These would all end up being great social activities for these seniors, and I'm sure you'd have a blast.

Just a few ideas :)
