Authorities: Georgia courthouse attacker prepared to inflict mayhem

(CNN) -- Dennis Marx wore body armor and a gas mask. He brandished an assault rifle, an assortment of grenades, "all kinds of ammunition" and even used his silver Nissan SUV as a weapon of sorts, according to authorities. The 48-year-old man toted his own water supply and flexible handcuffs, presumably to corral hostages once he got inside the north Georgia courthouse.
As Forsyth County Sheriff Duane Piper said, "He came prepared to do this."
But Dennis Marx never even made it inside.
A nearly three-minute long gunfight Friday ended with Marx dead, after being confronted by a swarm of law enforcement officers.

Marx was supposed to be at the Forsyth County Courthouse in Cumming. Court documentsshow he faced 11 felony charges -- 10 of them related to the manufacture, possession and sale of illicit drugs, including marijuana, plus one count of having a firearm while in the commission of a felony -- dating back to August 2011.
According to the sheriff's office, he was expected to enter a plea Friday before Chief Superior Court Judge Jeffrey Bagley.

But ....2nd amendment?
actually the second amendment up till 1968 protected the right of individuals to own grenades, as well as heavy machine guns, artillery guns, and "all the terrible weapons of the soldier"

grenades sawed off shotguns and machine guns were banned under the rubric of "public safety" and the "commerce clause" in response to the high profile assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK.

noteably, none of those weapons were used in any of those crimes...

But, all the Libs told me that if we ban things they will stop being used by people in crimes.

I'm so confused...

notice he had an "assault weapon" not a "Machine Gun" or "Assault Rifle", and they were intensely vague on the nature of his "assortment of grenades"

i doubt he had frag, flash or incendiary devices, he prolly had smoke cans, which you can buy legally since they are nearly harmless.

more than 1 colour of smoke?
thats an "Assortment"

why do you presume he was a "right winger"?

more than a few lefties have used guns and explosives in their attempts to "overthrow the capitalist running dog machine"

and his name was Marx.
coincidence? i think not.

any respectable "Right Winger" would have the resources, knowledge and skill to acquire an actual "Machine Gun" or a fully functional "Aussalt Rifle" and some real grenades.

he was prolly a bumbling lefty idiot.

It does say "assault rifle".

Let's not forget about the "all kinds of ammunition" he was carrying.

It also says he "even used his silver Nissan SUV as a weapon of sorts".

Should we ban SUV's? Nissans? Silver Nissans? Silver SUV's? Silver Nissan SUV's? All silver vehicles? The color silver?

this guy would have Tim McVey'd the entire courthouse to carry out his nefarious murder plot. sociopaths are the problem, not guns. and we turn out sociopaths in America, like the Keebler elves crank out cookies.

but it is a CNN report so that could mean anything from a Brown Bess Musket to a General Electric M-61 Vulcan cannon.
