Freaking deer :(

This year was my first attempt to grow. I started nine bag seeds from some really good stuff. Seven sprouted and got off to a great start. Two weeks ago I planted them outdoors in, what I thought, were prime locations on some private land. Two in one spot, two in another, and the final three in yet another spot. Each "spot" was at least a mile away from the others. Although I did worry some about helicopter flyovers this fall, there was no way anyone else was going to find my plants.

Yesterday, I went back out to check them. We've had plenty of rain, but I was curious to see how they were doing and if they were showing sex yet.

Five of the seven were completely gone. The only clue to their disappearance were deer tracks in the soft dirt surrounding the planting spot. The two that were still there had been chewed down to nearly nothing, although it did appear that they were trying to put on some new growth.

Here's hoping those two can somehow bounce back and at least one of them turns out to be female.

I may not try outdoor again. Deer are so thick here. I literally see dozens of them every day. Indoor isn't a much better option for me either. Growing just may not be in the cards for me.

Live & learn...... but don't let this deter you from future endeavors,.
There are things you can control and things you can't.
I know someone who had a similar problem and they simply started using deer corn to move them away from his spot to another.....!
Good luck to you my friend !

You just have to take precautions and deter them from the plants or condition them to stay away from the area your plants are in. Usually the deer around here won't mess with mine come mid to late June when they have plenty of fruit to eat.
This is my back yard and I've only lost one to a deer this year and that was because it stomped it into the ground. This is only about half that roam around the yard at dusk and dawn.Deeeer.jpg

Get some wolf urine if you live near any hydroshops. Sprinkle around your babies and you shouldnt have too much of a problem

Meh deer have done a number on mine a few times. Just do like I do. Plant many many many many many more than you plan on harvesting.
One for the cops, one for the robbers, one for yourself (quote someone from RIU)
When outdoors never count on all of your plants surviving.

Here are the two surviving plants from the deer attack ten days ago. They seem to have bounced back. I've got my fingers crossed that they make it to the end of the season and at least one of them is female.

I bet they avoid you during hunting season though.....LOL....every back yard in WV looks like that this time of the year, they got no fear.

Deer can be a pain if over looked but easy to eliminate as a threat. As mentioned...encircling the grow with heavy test fishing line(50 lbs) tied at 1 and 4` will work. Also, water mixed with rotting eggs, hot peppers, and ground garlic drenched around perimeter will help with everything else.
You can also pee in a bottle with some cotton in it and punch a few small holes on the lid. This method isn`t necessary if you employ the two former.
