CO2 question

I haven't much experience with it so here it goes.. If my room is lets say 500ppm during the light phase and 1000ppm in the dark - if I get some of those CO2 bags or the new sheets that add CO2 ALL THE TIME, will it hurt my plants if I raise to say 2500ppm or a very high level during the dark phase?

PS - Please don't reply with "Those bags suck" or "Get a burner" blah blah blah... I'm just asking about safe levels.

How is it that your room is 500 ppm during light and 1000 ppm during dark? Do you already have a CO2 tank and regulator and a CO2 senor or are you just making up numbers? Typically you run CO2 on a timer with a regulator 15 on and 15 off during the light cycle when the majority of gas exchange takes place. The CO2 levels of ambient air is approximately 400 ppm, 2500 ppm may kill your plants.

I guess the question could apply to both Ray, I was under the impression CO2 was most beneficial in flower though
Well im no expert on growing and this is my first year actually growing my own myself .But if were talking about both I will start with veg stage.Sorry to rant if you already know but marijuana is a C3 type plant so it gets most of its C02 intake in its light period. So doesn't necessarily require a dark period in veg mode which is why I prefer to run my lights 24/0. In flowering Some say it not necessarily and will hurt them some say it will, increase potency decrease yield, increase yield etc. I don't really know about that to give you a answer but and am now curious myself. Curious to see what anyone else has to say on the subject but for now I am off to research more :bigjoint:

co2 promotes photosynfsis in daylight , i dought it will do anything in dark,, u better ask a pro

Lets start again... I don't know what my levels are in the light period and dark CaretakerDad, 500 and 1000 were hypothetical because I know the levels are higher during the dark phase due to the plants giving it off and not taking it in.

The bags that give off CO2 (and other non-regulated methods) are designed to give off a certain amount of CO2 *stay with me here* If I add enough of these products to raise my daytime levels to 1500ppm it will continue to produce during the night phase and raise my levels much higher.... at what point can CO2 be a detriment. *Bows* #thatsmyquestion

BAH!!!! Grandmah..... I hope you get spider mites :weed:
I've heard of levels at or even over 4500ppm not being detrimental to plants. Some have run high levels like those to try to suffocate pests. Should not be a big problem at night. For sure don't TRY for such levels on a regular basis because it won't be beneficial.

Levels this high are a suffocation risk to people- be very careful with high concentrations of gaseous CO². If you feel the need to start panting or can't quite catch your breath, get outside immediately.

A little reading on basic plant physiology would have saved you and others a lot of time. How can you ask questions about the things you know when your assumptions are simply not correct. Plants take in CO2 and release O2, the carbon that is captured in that process (respiration) is the building block for all plant processes particularly the formation of complex carbohydrates required for growth.

Please provide a citation for your information about CO2 levels over 4500 PPM not being detrimental to plants. It is an accepted practice to suffocate spider mites with a short term exposure to elevated levels of CO2. This is often done by covering an individual plant with a large plastic trash bag and then injecting CO2 for a few minutes. PS "I heard from a guy" is not a citation.

The OP wasn't asking about long term exposure, only short term exposure and midnight peaking. I'm not suggesting or advocating such high levels over long periods- because it's unhelpful and dangerous. Hitting 2500ppm overnight won't kill anything. Getting to 4500ppm is going to take a real effort and again as long as it's episodic the plants shouldn't suffer too much.

Does putting the plant in a bag and blasting CO² in there really work to kill spidermites? I thought using CO² as pesticide was an old wive's tale...

All living creatures use oxygen to live. Insects breathe through openings in their exoskeletons .
(notice that an insect in a fluid can live for a long period with its head submerged but not if its body is covered that is why you remove ticks by covering their exposed body with oil as they have to back out to breathe)
Removing the oxygen long enough to smother them can be an effective tool if you have issues with using miticides. After years of fighting the little bastards, I personally recommend Forbid 4F.....better living through chemicals. :) And it is very effective.

Wow CaretakerDad... thank you for immediately identifying yourself as a douche bag! Its refreshing to just get a read on someone right away. I'm not concerned with "Wasting mine and others time" This is a message board used by growers to communicate.. No one is forced to read or respond. I'm sure Rollitup can provide you a "Citation" on that lol

Thanks for the feedback ttystikk

You are an idiot that apparently didn't go to school like many of us have. A little education is a wonderful thing. Kindly go fuck yourself :)
It seems to me that the only class you were able to excel in is Pompous Asshole 101. In your case, education isn't ALWAYS a wonderful thing. I'm sure whatever ills in your life causing you to lash out at others will in time subside... you have my sympathy caretakerdad

Let me save you some money.. You need so many of those bags to even get your ppm up to 800, so many that it's uneconomical not to just go buy a tank and regulator in the first place.

Plants will create co2 at night If he's not venting at night the co2 level will go up quite a bit. if you are venting any of those sheets/co2 yeast bottle will do fuck all for you unless there's not air exchange.
