marijuana and the military

OK so I'm thinking about joining the air force reserves. I know you won't be able to smoke while enlisted. But with marijuana on it's way to becoming legal in many more states, I would love to get into the business side of things as soon as possible. Does anyone know if the military would have a problem with running a marijuana business while in the reserves? I know you only have to serve two weekends a month but don't know how close they monitor your personal life. Any help is greatly appreciated.

imvho, there's no way in hell that the military is ever going to be cool with any member being involved in any form of canna business.. that's simply laughable. at least until it's rescheduled, and even at that time, i'm still pretty doubtful.
if you enjoy cannabis, or any other drug use, the military is the last place for you, unless of course you enjoy a dishonorable discharge, which in that case, go for it.. but no, military and drugs don't mix, at all..

I am ex USAF active duty. I still know active duty military (enlisted) getting dishonorably discharged for just possessing it. Until it becomes legal on the federal level, any current federally illegal drug use by you or your significant other can be cause for denying you a security clearance.

Racerboy71 is 100% correct, stay away from any combination of drugs and the military.

There a million stories about drugs in the military, all of them about getting or not getting caught. None are about open use. Hint, hint.

We smoked all the time in Viet Nam. :bigjoint:
no doubt, but the times have most certainly changed, and you'd be pretty hard pressed to get away with that sort of thing in the modern military..
i have even read stories of people getting kicked out of the military for smoking spice, which i think is a bit extreme, but it is what it is, and just goes to further the point that they don't play around with this sort of thing..

i signed up and didn't go for a few months. smoked until the day i left.

reported in and was tested. half way through boot camp about a dozen of us were called in on our test. thankfully i was regular military and they said since i was signed up i was still in before i actually went. i was told that it was zero tolerance from now on. half of us got that warning, but the other half were not regular military but signed up for nuke school. they lost their school and busted down a rank. since they were nukes, they had an automatic increase in rank from day one.

i have seen many get busted, and somehow i slipped through. i only smoked about 7 or 8 times when i was in and every time i would pray they wouldn't test my sample.

Times have changed ... I have friends retiring this year ... I asked, they said Racerboy71 is 100% right!!!!!!!
trust me, i'm not big on the military, but what little bit about it that i do know, tells me that they don't play around with this sort of thing any longer.. i know people who were in say during the 80's who have gotten away with smoking, and using, but it seems from what lil i know, they've really cracked down recently, last few decades or so..
and i think vietnam was much different scenario than just normal active duty.. firstly, there were a lot of people who were drafted.. if smoking a joint would have gotten them sent home, well, i think a lot of people over there would have started smoking simply so they could have gotten sent home, if you know what i mean..
secondly, it was war time obviously..

6 x's?? jesu, what happened to you the first 5 x's, if you don't mind my asking of course? just a drop in rank, or put on restricted duty for so long, or how'd that work out? just curious, if it's none of my business i completely understand..
