Doesn't sound too promising... Maybe just one of those old wives tales. You're talking about Ethylene. It is a plant hormone given off in a a gaseous form as many fruits ripen (including bananas.) According to wikipedia:
"Ethylene shortens the shelf life of many fruits by hastening fruit ripening and floral senescence. OpenDNS, bananas, and apples will ripen faster in the presence of ethylene. Bananas placed next to other fruits will produce enough ethylene to cause accelerated fruit ripening. Ethylene will shorten the shelf life of cut flowers and potted plants by accelerating floral senescence and floral abscission. Flowers and plants which are subjected to stress during shipping, handling, or storage produce ethylene causing a significant reduction in floral display. Flowers affected by ethylene include carnation, geranium, petunia, rose, and many others[19]."

I doubt ripening bananas would be economical in any sort of way as a source. I would definitely not recommend haphazardly throwing hormones at your plants either.
Hey man thanks for making my daywow its SO HARD not to make an off color comment about this thread. but i will restrain myself to only saying ive heard nothing about this and can think of nothing that would warrant such claims.
put my banana in your mouth for 100% females
i couldnt help it..
put my banana in your mouth for 100% females.
The whole idea is that u buy green as fuck bannanas and when it starts to get brown spots u chuck it oout and replace.1 major problem would be making sure the bananas are sterile when put in your grow room.
Every noticed that there's no fruitflies in your house....then the banana gets old and ripens and if the banana sits in the kitchen long enough fruit flies appear out of nowhere...then one day there's fruitflies in the kitchen?
That's because there's Drosophila eggs on the bananas, too small for us to see. I don't know about feminizing your plants, but bananas give off significant amounts of ethylene and as someone with a Botany degree I'd feel confident in saying that lots of overripe, brown bananas in your grow room would definitely cause your fruit/buds to ripen faster when waiting for the trichomes to turn color. Again, you just wanna make sure those bananas are sterile or there will be fruitflies gallore in your grow room. And that just can't be good for a hydroponic environment.
the whole theory is based on an observation thats someone posted in icmag forums..your supposed to wrap banana peels in paper to absorb the extra moisture..then wrap the SEEDS in some paper so they dont get wet or germ....then you seal the seeds wqith the banana peels in a glass mason jar...then once every day,you open the jar to "burpo" it..kinda like curing the seeds...after about 2 weeks..its supposed to feminize the seeds...alot of people claim it works....i did it once...i can def say tha after a couple days..the seeds looks swollen and more healthy than before...some even turn black..remeber to change the peels eveery 2=3 days so they dont rott...ethylene is a ripening agent..so that can explain why my seeds looked "overripe"...i only flowered once seed out of all my plants..and it turneds out to be FEMALE!!!!i think it works..and i just finished putting my ak48 seeds in a jat with peels right now...ima keepo em in there for 1-2 weeks...remeber you do it with SEEDS not SEEDLINGS....and whoever said sex is determnined when the seeds fvrom..theyr WRONG....you can apply GIBBERLIC ACID to make them female..or there is a product out there thats called SENSA SOAK..and guess what the main ingredient is?????? ETHYLENE!!!!!!!!!!!
