the best thing to do is.. flower a male inside of something.. u can do this anywere not near your grow room really.. unless u grab a hepa filter so the pollen cant go anywere.. but for most people that option is not happening..

i got one from ebay for 200.. and i been chuckin for a lil.. its cool to do. i like seeing how stable the females are.. and seeing what the males bring to the table...

I am about to start doing the same. I have been reading a lot and lurking on the site gathering all the info I can on making a cross with the plants that I have. Very interesting stuff

Agreed. It will be very interesting to give it a whirl. Even if you only hit on 1 out of 100 it will still be very rewarding and fun. Can't wait to get started!

you dont need high tech to prevent pollen pollution. no air flow is key. i got pollen everywhere with no contamination. males dropping pollen in veg with no probs either. can also spritz the air with water where u fear pollen may be lurking. but i expected serious seedage and its really pretty fucking easy and forgiving! also fucking addcting...

Question. I have two males ready to pop in about a week. I need the tent they are in and don't want pollen to travel...

Can I cut stems now and put in a vase / water or some sorts to control where pollen falls?

beautiful. the only issue i see man.. is that CARPET.. can hold water.. and bacteria.. and mold.. and pollen.. so u could potentially have a bunch of issues .. id tarp that shit up.. just to be safe.. plus u dont wana destroy the carpet..

I do, but only when pods are about to open.

I wait until outdoor season to collect pollen, so I don't have to keep flowering males indoors.

Put cut stalks in vase of water + put inside Large Paper Grocery Bag with a fan blowing on the outside of the bag(to prevent mold).
All the pollen should fall inside the bag, which makes it much easier to collect.

My first time I had a bit of mold forming near the top of the vase but it was because I jammed too many stalks in the vase + had 0 air movement outside of the paper bag.

I'm sure there are other better ways, but this worked for me.

Well my male Green Lotus had two pollen sacks open when I checked the cabinet this evening. I collected what I could but feel I missed a lot. I placed tin foil under the entire canopy secured at the base of stem as soon as the male flowers started to appear. How long will the pollen remain viable thats collected on the tin foil?

the faster the pollen dries the more viable it will stay
kept cool and dry, such as the fridge in a container of uncooked rice will lengthen that by a lot
exact numbers are hard, i'd think yours should be good for a few weeks, maybe more
if you freeze dry(which isn't hard) then years, i get about 2 years or so though that can be improved on

This is my first time collecting pollen. Do most of the pollen sacks open around yhe same time? Or is it a drawn out stagger through the flower cycle? Thanks!

I wouldn't recommend it considering it could pass on that bad trait.
Technically it's possible if they aren't sterile.
