I just got off the phone with a receptionist for Mettrum my LP. They said that their Red # 1 (Purple Kush) is now irradiated at the request of patients with compromised immune systems. I told them I did not want irradiated bud and they said its perfectly safe. I asked who has done studies on irradiated bud being smoked and she did not know and said that health Canada had told them it was safe. Health Canada has not done any studies on this. I cant believe that this is happening. They have almost no other product. I tried the purple candy (3) and purple kush (1) and og kush (orange1) and all of them were very weak. I wanted the Red # 5 ( Lemon haze) but that is delayed they said due to testing. At the moment I have no medicine and I dont know what to do. This new program is a disaster in my opinion.

sorry to hear your stuck in the mmpr program....seems to be a large number of complaints...regardless which lp it is...
and other than those with immune system issues...i doubt anyone wants irradiated bud.
even a lot of the immune system issues were not issues for those growing for themsleves....since they alone were handling the meds...
or a trusted grower....
now they can't say who has had access to or breathed on...the meds...

I know a few times we tried to speed dry some buds way back. Put them in the microwave and tried a slow dry. It ruined the weed every time.

This is going to be the new cop-out for producers that need to rely on irradiation to pass QA specs......they don't use it because they need to, but do so because patients with immune deficiencies are requesting it. Patients with immune system concerns are just one of many types of MMJ users......why would Mettrum irradiate the entire batch when they could very easily irradiate half for patients with immune system concerns, and leave the rest for everyone else? Considering these LPs have to be aware that this subject is being discussed at length on every online forum, and that the overwhelming majority of patients polled do not want irradiated medication given the choice, it seems very odd for them to up and zap an entire batch just because a few patients asked them to.

My guess is that there is more to this story and that there was a reason why they had to irradiate the rest of the batch. And why is it only one strain that they are irradiating? Do people with immune system concerns only smoke Purple Kush? If it really was their M.O. to accommodate this group of patients, would it not make a lot more sense to irradiate small portions of every strain instead?

go to another LP... I know it's a bother and might have consequences with what ever ails you, but as patients in the MMPR we have to start dumping these LP's that are not helping us. I hope you find a new better LP

I don't think we need another poll on if someone wants irradiated MMJ...do you? I think were all in consensus that no one wants to smoke it, eat it, or even be around it.

Not saying someone out there may need it but..... even those that are immune compromised would they even want it? seems to me if they would eat a banana with a brown spot they wouldn't need irradiated crap MMJ. but I'm no expert on this matter

The more the people that actually have to use this medicine complain about irradiated MMJ the better. Also if there is a consensus opposing this then why is it happening. Are we that powerless that we can't ensure patients access to non-irradiated product.

I was not crapping on yer parade... welcome aboard.... just it has been done a few times.... I was pointing out just that.... you are not powerless... find another LP..... I know it's hard and it should be way easier to do but if we don't do this as patients then they keep the control over us.... and soon we lose the ability to control it if we don't start doing it now

It might take up to 3 months to switch LP's. Wait for appt, pay 275 again, wait 4 weeks for "verification" and then shipping. Then I have to try multiple strain's, Mettrum's minimum order was 15 grams. This is all a massive hassle.

that's what they count on ..... it being too much of a hassle to change.... wrong way of course.... but if we don't do this now as the front runners it's going to be and make it be worse in the long run.

who's to say the next one will better? but I think we owe it to ourselves and others to show the rest who's doing what and where's the good LP's are. I want to hear check out this LP they are making great meds!!!! but so far ... this isn't the case... just horror stories.....

Tilray looks promising quality wise. Although at 12 a gram and no disability discount that could be a deal breaker.
They said they do not irradiate at all and have a good variety of 20 percent plus strains. Lets say I order 120 grams a month of Cali mist, my monthly allotment. That would be $1,440 every month or $17,289 a year. 120 grams a month is 3.2 ponds a year. I could grow 3 to 4 pounds myself for much less than 17 thousand dollars. In fact one crop of 4 pounds grown myself would not cost over $1000, including hydro. Also shipping from BC to Ontario adds an unnecessary carbon footprint to my meds.

I will say this Mettrum has responded by understanding that I don't want irradiated bud and says they will not zap entire batches just that right now they are out of non-irradiated Red # 1 for which they apologize. I will wait for the Red #5 but it better be top shelf or I will have to switch LP's.

PS. Mettrum's price is $7.60 per gram with 30% off the first 30 grams ordered every month.

Tilray does look promising, but they're under the same roof as Tweed in the sense that they're backed by big money and very, very profit-centric. Not to say they won't produce great product, but their owners in the US will want money fast I imagine.

This family seems to be the best option at this point. Lowest overhead, allowing for reasonable pricing to be passed on to patients. Too bad I only know of one other potential LP planning to use large commercial greenhouses instead of spending millions on rooms and creating massive overhead. I'm hoping these smaller LP's show the rest how it's done

I think the issue with the greenhouse is the security requirements. You have to build all your security requirements surrounding the greenhouse, so it's not like you can just setup a greenhouse and a chainlink fence.

Can a production site be located outdoors or in a greenhouse?
Production sites can only be located indoors. You can cultivate in a greenhouse if it meets the requirements of the new Marihuana for Medical Purposes Regulations, including for physical security.

I know of many LPs (some already approved) that are or will be using greenhouses. This is the only truly NFP LP that I am aware of though.
