yep they sure can. i worked for fedex like a year ago. some guy handed me a box on the street and said he wanted to ship it. but he was very suspicious so after i took the box from him i opened it. found 2lbs of purple. took a pound and a half and put the rest back in the box but cut open the vacuum seal so it would stink up the truck. i gave it to my manager when i returned to the station and he told me the police would set up a sting where the package was going.

Thats not right at all,i ship with Fedex,UPS & Bax Global,all of them reserve the right to open any package with a "declared value" to inspect contents & to inspect packing,this is a fact.

It is what protects them from somebody claiming they are shipping a $5,000 item,then insuring it,then claiming it arrived damaged when in reality all that was in the box was a $20 vcr.

All shipping companies will regulary open & inspect packages.

last time I shipped with fedex and had it insured they checked the item before processing...and do u honestly believe that shipping companies have people who go through peoples mail on a regular basis? I dont think so. if that was the case people wouldnt be able to order bongs, seeds etc off the internet without getting into trouble.

fedex can open packages, but that most of the time that only happens when the shipping address doest exist. suspicious packages, as in suspected drugs and bombs are reported to the police due to the fact that opening them can be dangerous. I cant tell u too much about the process, but 100 times out of 100 when theres a suspiscious package, the proper response is to call the police.

Ok, I know where you are going with this... I now understand you have more "inside info". Actually yes, I would like to see a picture of it. It would prove to me that what they post in their shipping centers and on their web site are just to scare you. I appreciate the heads up. You can even take a pic and send it in a private message. I just want to know the truth about FedEx and UPS. I know the USPS is a total different medium because it's Federal, but I understand so are parts of FedEx. Thanks for the heads up. If this did happen.....you should have said "No use another carrier."

As a Fedex employee you have no right to open anyone's packages. We pay Fedex to do their job and that is not part of it. If the Feds are in the facility where the package is and they want to search it then they legally can but that is not your job unless you are a fed but acting like one and sounding like one does not make you one.

Also warning the guy would have been nice but this just seems like a bunk story in general.

Fedex has vigorous tests to choose their handlers. They also drug test. I seriously doubt that a pothead that smokes every day could do their job. Maybe somebody who does once a month but seriously....

I have worked in the transport industry in the past (for many years) and would have *never* opened a box based on suspicion of weed.
As the pick up driver or delivery person, we have no accountability for what is in any package. We cart freight from A to B.

Quite a few years ago our depot got a call from the local railway station. Apparently a box had been sent by rail to our town with a 'care of' our transport company as the address. They'd been holding it for 3 months, had opened it and decided they didn't want it in their depot. The exact words from the guy on the phone to me were "there must be a hundred thousand dollars worth of electrical gear in there. We don't want to be responsible for it".

I drove down and picked the box up, brought it back to our depot and checked the contents... a complete small scale hydroponics set up (minus pots), including two high intensity lights, two pumps and 50 metres of pipe and fittings. Oh, and one Hydroponic Weed Growers Guide.

I phoned the home number that the sender had put on the box (fool) and told him that I had the box at our depot and that if he contacted the guy who was supposed to receive it, he could contact me personally at the depot and I'd give him the box, no questions asked. He was pretty freaked I think, because no-one turned up to claim the box. After three months, I became the owner of a complete hydro kit.

NOTE WELL: At no time did I narc on anyone. In my opinion, even hinting at narcing on a fellow smoker is hypocritical to the extreme and is just plain fucked.

There is NO EXCUSE for getting another smoker busted, and using the 'he'll get a lesser charge because I took 3/4 of the weed' is probably even lower than just calling the cops.

I personally know 3 people that worked at fedex before the worked with me at another job. all 3 were huge potheads and smoked the entire time they worked there. i even talked to one of them personally about it. he had to go to an interview to make his dad get off his back but he really didnt want to work at fedex so after he got the job he was going to get drug tested. he said he smoked as much as he could that whole week and had been smoking constantly the months before. he still got the job. he worked there for a fairly long time.

This is even worse than digging up someone's guerrilla grow because at least if you steal someone's crop, you don't set them up to get busted. You could have just stolen the box but you had to go the extra mile and set the guy up too.
