Growing With 'The Leaf Chief' | 2014 Outdoor Operation

Hello everyone! Firstly, I am new to Roll It Up, I was a member on another message board for a little while but found this community to be better (lurker).

Anyway. I am from the North-East in North America. I have a outdoor garden that consists of 10 marijuana plants. In the photos you see below are of the babies before they were transplanted. Today I just transplanted the plants into one-gallon containers. I am hoping they wont get root-bound being that they are outdoor photo-period plants.

I currently have the pots planted in the ground with a 2x2x2ft mini greenhouse to keep them nice and warm during the unpredictable spring season. Plus its nice to be able to spray the inside of the tent to improve humidity.

What do you farmers think?


By May 20th I hope to have my auto-flowering seeds started. I went with 3x Sweet Seeds 'Dark Devil' & 3x Cream Of The Crop 'Cash Crop'. I also received Dinafem Seeds 'Blue Kush' & World Of Seeds 'Afghan Kush Ryder'

Looks like you may have mites, i.would check out those spotted lower leaves.

Hey kmog thanks for dropping by. I am concerned with that plant as well. It seems like you may be correct. maybe a little water with diluted dish soap should do just that?

I foliar spray every day when the plants are waking up, and mist before sunset. I never have problems with mites. Maybe doing this with diluted biodegradable dish soap will help keep them at bay. as they like dry conditions

Just water a will keep them under control, but theyre extremely hard to get rid of. Its still pretty early on though you may be able to get rid of them.

I did a little foliage spraying after transplanting today so maybe I will get into the habit of spraying the foliage every morning before the sun peaks out. Like many of us i'm up at 4:20am making my coffee and serving up a couple dabs, so making foliage spraying apart of that routine wouldn't be difficult.

I've only had mites spider mites once in many years of growing..Lucky I guess. I gave them a sponge bath of 15% rubbing alcohol -water and cleaned the underside of the leaves. It worked for me.
I'm hoping I didn't just jinx myself for this year!!

Yep..just relooked..The plant in the second pic in. Get that early!!

Thanks! I can't wait until they get a nice woody stem. I'm a little nervous about the gallon bucket though. Will that be enough space for the rootball for a outdoor plant?

I would transplant into at LEAST a 5 gallon after they fill the 1 gallon.

Thank you for your reply. I was debating between a 3-5. I guess the 5 gallon will be the one to go with. How tall will a plant generally grow in a 5 gallon. I know that's a hard assumption but I can't have them too noticeable. They need to blend in with the other garden vegetation.

Mine were like 3-4 feet. but I topped multiple times and supercropped up until flowering. they probably would have been 6 feet+ if I didnt. I had to water 1 once a day though. and on really hot days twice a day.

Would you mind sharing your advice on topping or supercropping? Or know of any good threads? I want to experiment with this outside garden.

Use neem one a week...you will need to add soap or pro-tekt to the oil and warm water...

I top all my plants...the smaller ones get LSTed with yarn or wire hooks
Also you might want to jump up to 10 gallon grow bags..it's worth it...

I follow UncleBen's technique for topping. On youtube there are good videos on supercropping. just gotta be careful when doing it.
