what happened to this place ..

i don't really see any issues with the site personally.. before the update let's look at things.. we were getting that virus alert thing from google, yeah, that was good.. we were getting the time out thing w/e i tried to refresh a page, yupper, another good thing..
pix took forever and a day to upload, if you could at all.. the likes were gone.. lots of people had to fill out that stupid captcha thing every time they went to post.. lots of times, you'd type out a nice, thoughtful response, hit post reply, and the entire post would vanish on you.. no likes, people were crying that the likes were gone..i felt so bad for sunni, as it seemed every other day there was a thread, when are the likes going to come back.. poll, are the likes ever gonna return? poll, how much do you miss the likes?
and what do we have now? a site that's fast, responsive, and i haven't had any sort of virus popup in a month or two.. oh yeah, almost forgot the huge amount of spam on the old site.. at times, the entire first page of new posts was nothing but spam..since the new upgrade, i think i've seen one spam post make it to the boards proper.. the likes are back. ok, so the rep is gone, and i had just hit 100k rep points, but in honesty, what does it matter? oh, my ego took a hit because now i don't have a rep beyond repute, who cares? well, i guess some people do, but for me, the pluses far out way any small negatives that i can think of..

People started leaving when the site got hacked and Google blacklisted it. Some people don't like change, even if it is for the better. Your right numbers do speak volumes. Your post complaining got 1 like and my reply to you got 6.

Quite obviously because people who like the new site still log on and others like myself use it less now.

I can't believe there's people that like the new setup. It sucks. Likes are back, woopty fucking do. There's much better sites out there than what this has become.

The old software they are using is a security nightmare. It had to be gotten rid of. I agree it's weird getting used to the new layout, but so far I've seen pretty much everything still functioning. Maybe it's just me?

i think they gave 1 like per 1000 on the old system, or 1 per 100, my math sucks..

But something has happened; most probably a few things happened around the same time. TNT blew up badly and some of the more interesting people bailed. At the same time, RIU started to have serious problems and then took too long to fix them. Waaaaay too long. This was a pretty serious screw-up. There were a lot of people who devoted a lot of time to this and just got sick of the screw ups. I am guessing the numbers are going to be down for quite some time while it rebuilds some credibility. Based on the fact that RIU doesn't even seem to care enough to pay godaddy... Well, that should show you something.

I also personally believe that a larger number of twats started to use RIU or maybe the balance just shifted. Maybe the movement as we knew it is being destroyed by legalization. Either way. I don't come here for the format, I come here for the people. Still reading. Just got nothin to say for now. I hope it gets better.

in my experience, i've been here for coming up on six years, the site always seems to go in cycles.. idk what causes it, but over the years i can't even count how many members have gotten mad over this or that, and went off and started their own sites, or simply drifted to other sites that have been around for some time.
sometimes, for months and months, this place will be a hot bed of activity, then for w/e reason, it will die down for a bit.. some members will leave, new members always come and go, and a good portion of us will more than likely always be here, through the thick and the thin, the good and the bad.. i also think that the seasons play a big role in it..
