Hello all. I have stumbled over two small plants in my back yard that seem to be in the vegetation stage. I have since taken them under my wing for eager TLC, So thus I find myself here for advice and lecturing
. This is my first attempt at growing, Both babies are in a plastic pot, with MG soil and watered. For the first week I had them outside, and it started getting into the upper 90's. So I have now placed them in a large cupboard with a grow light and plenty of ventilation. I have a temp gauge that reads a steady 75 degress. I have some pics i will post and lookign for feed back or advice..so please feel free to add any input..... ty.

P.S. I have transplanted them into a two new pots with 3/4 natural soil and 1/4 MG. My Lights are 2 48" f40t12/CW/EG fluorescent lights about 4" away from the plants.

keep them misted reguarly in this early stage and dont overwater as the roots will still be forming a proper structure. What lights are you going with for the duration of the grow?

I'm all for the nursing and taking care of these two.... But with that said, I researched my first indoor grow for years. Albeit, I WAY overshot the research side. I had the time, but not the money or space.

So, if you are building and learning as you go, hold on and try not to get inundated with too much information... There is A LOT of it out there, some good, some bad.

I concur that you should first and foremost get out of the garden soil / miracle grow combo. Order Fox Farm Ocean Forrest (It seems to be the universal, #1 go to for beginners and experienced folk alike) soil. They sell it on Amazon. Mix in some perrilite and coco (this is key, it helps with drainage and gas exchange) The soil has everything you need to feed those girls till flower.

Other than that... Lighting is gonna be your #1 concern. 2 T12 bulbs will give those lil plants enough light to survive but not thrive and bare vegetate. Once you are ready to flower, You will need to look into (much) stronger lighting.

I have some T12s that I use for veg but I also use a few T8s and CFL's. That combo works for me before my ladies are put under the sun.. I like them because the temps stay between 75-79 degrees. Good luck!

you're gonna need better soil and lights, plus some fertilizer. i like organic myself. that second plant looks rough, probably over-watering. let the soil dry out before you water them, and get some soil with better drainage. btw, you do know they could both be males right?

Ill agree with the soil change and allow soil to dry out before watering again, especially on that second one. Im using fox farm soil in second grow and has done great. People say its too hot for seedling but I disagree as have planted 6 germinated seeds in this soil with 100% sprout.
Keep lights2-3" away for now, and about 40w cfl each plant should do fine for the next week or so, up lights as plants grow.

The best chance you're going to have is to set up some good soil, perlite and ferts in pots. Bone meal too, for root development. Set up your grow room. Leave the plants alone for a while and let them recuperate from the transplant you just did. Maybe give them a little top dressing of bone meal next time you water. Don't over water. If and when the plants look healthy (maybe a week or 2), transplant them into the new, properly set up pots/room. It'll be some work and you're going to have to research some stuff like ferts and lights but, if they live maybe you can grow them up. Good luck.

Ty boys for helping me with all the suggestions. -winks- So i have followed Sparkticus's advice. I have since added a CFL 40 watt 800 lumens daylight along with my two 40" T12's they are cool white...The rough looking plant is losing the bottom two sets of leaves, yet showing signs of new growth already where the dead leaves fell off...i'll post pics soon..:D

The droop is from transplant shock and could takes weeks to correct. In the mean time no watering, feeding and raise the lights.

to share my experience...
Miracle gro is too hot for little seedlings this has stunted them
the time release has now started and its getting more and more burned, every watering.
what shoulda been done is either get the plant to a decent size then give it the MG or, mix in half of some loam and perlite to make it a little easier on the babies

also "putting it outside"
always do this gradually. You want the plant to be hardened off before going outside (stiff stem=hardened off, your plant is def hardened off)
when you bring it outside put it in the shade for a day or two, then give it 1 hour of sun, then another, and so on. This will gradually make the plant used to sunlight and prevent light stress

if i was in your situation it would be much easier to put that baby on the backburner, get some quality potting soil like Happy frog by humboldt county, and a bag of perlite, and a new seedling. By the time the crappy one comes back t life the seedling should be a bit bigger than it , then you could transplant both and flower them

when you water stick your finger in first, make sure the soil is not too moist. The MG soil has styrofoam or something in it that holds onto moisture different than perlite, and another good way to tell when to water is picking up the pots
