My Germination Method

Things you will need:
(1) Jiffy Peat Pellets (Tomato Greenhouse) the refill box. Spent about $4.50

(2) Bowl or cup
(3)**optional** CaMg+ also know as CalMag. (General organics brand calls for 1 teaspoon a gallon for light feeding and 2 teaspoons for heavy. Which I use 1 teaspoon a gallon starting off.)
image.jpg
(4) Water (Your choice of water. I use well water)

Steps:
(1) Mix up the water and CaMg+ in your gallon container (milk jug). Just use whatever your brand calls for for a gallon. Keep in mind as the plant grows you can use this water to water the plant.
(2) Pour the water in the cup or bowl. Then add a Jiffy Peat Pellet. Then wait for the pellet to expand.
(3) Then squeeze the pellet once expanded to drain some of the water.
(4) Take a pencil and dig a hole in the hole in the net about 4-5 centimeters.
(5) Drop in your preferred seed. Now cover it up.

Now you can take that expanded pellet and put it in a dark humid place and check every 24 hours (not every 5 minutes newbies) for progress. Once the seed is fully off the leaves then it is ready for light. Keep in mind to make sure the pellet stays moist.

My homemade propagator:

Go buy a Jiffy Pellet Dome and put the expanded pellet inside with your planted seed. Spray the top of the dome with water. Then put the dome on. Cover it with 1-2 folded towels for darkness. Then set it on a heating pad on low. Make sure to keep it running because mine goes off every hour.

Any questions or suggestions leave me a reply.

High humidity is really not needed for good germination. In soil it greatly increases the risk of damping off. Domes are not something I would use anymore for germination from bad experiences with them. I've never used the jiffy pots so maybe damping off is not a problem with them. Is it a sterilized medium?

I've fried seedlings with heat mats so I don't trust those. I position my 400w MH light above them and play with the spacing until my soil is in the upper 70's. It stays on until they sprout.

I also disagree with waiting every 24 hours to check for sprouts if you are sprouting in a dark room. I want light on them as they are breaking the surface to keep stems from over stretching. I would not want them going 24 hours above ground without light.

Everybody here seems to do it differently so if you get the results you want, it is all good.

I've done it all ways. Just throwing a way out there for people to try. It works real well. It has never hurt my plants to go 24 hours above ground without light. It's gone longer... All my plants are normal. It is sterile because the pellets are compacted until water is added to fluff them up.

No disaster man. Try it
If it works for you that's great.. I just stick to what I'm comfortable with. I've just recently started germinating some of my seeds in soil and that was hard enough. I like the paper towel method because I can see with my own eyes when they crack instead of waiting to see them pop above the soil.
As far as the humidity domes, I've always had bad luck with those. Every once in a while if I have to, I'll use something sort of like that for protection against the elements with seedlings that I plant early outdoors.
Good luck w/ your Kush grow.

Dude I respect you for such a positive post. This is the only reason I posted it. Just so people could agree or disagree but if they disagree they can post there own way. That's why it was posted in newbie central to help out the newbies with there grows. Thanks man.

Np.. Seems as if most of the new members sign up just to ask a question or two and are never heard from again. I've only been a member for like 9-10 months but have grown on and off for quite a few years. For me, growing any sort of plant has been a hobby of mine as long I can remember and come on here for new ideas and the infinite amount of info that all the more experienced growers are willing to share with anyone that asks. From what I've found on here its all about finding different methods that work for you. There is always more than one way to do something.
