Hey guys this is something I posted in the middle of a dead thread, never quite got an answer and my taproot in many of my seeds have popped.

I have my 4 outdoor photoperiod seeds germinating in paper towels right now, I have had my soil mix sitting outside for about 3 weeks, It consists of

4x 7 Gallon Buckets with drain holes
1x Promix
3lb each, Blood meal, bone meal
2lb Kelp Meal
3 lb vermiculite
10 cups crushed lime
20lbs Earthworm castings
20 lbs of rich looking dirt from outside
some Epsom salt for good measure
CAN I USE THIS MIX SITTING OUTSIDE FOR MY SPROUTED SEED WHEN I PUT IT IN THE STARTER CUPS, WILL IT BURN MY SEED? MY SOIL PH TESTER WONT BE HERE TIL NEXT WEEK BUT I DID ADD LIME, should be okay?

Holy crap NO!!! Just use *plain* potting soil for the first 4-6". You can put the kicked up soil with higher N in the bottom; that's how I do it. By the time the plants roots hit that stuff they are ready for it.

ya i d say sounds pretty "hot" to me go with just some reg potting soil i wouldnt even line the bottom but you can if you want make sure the pots your putting them into gove it enough time to grow in size so when they do get to that soil they can handle it but i would just go no amended soil and then transplant into something of that sort so there are no possiblities of burn or worse

You said you have 4 x 7gal bucket. So Im assuming you have about 4 Cubic feet of soil. And you added:

3lb each, Blood meal, bone meal
2lb Kelp Meal

So 8lb of amendments total. I believe a good amount is 2-3 cups per Cu. Ft. If you did 3 per then you'd need 12 cups total.

I think you are a good amount over that so I'd let it cycle for quite a bit longer before using on anything, let alone seedlings.

Can make a simple mix of

EWC, Peat Moss (40/60)
Lime

Thats what I used for my most recent run and worked well. Should get you by the first 3 weeks.

I would also check the ph of your soil, that seems like quite a bit of lime. I think promix has lime in it as well, depending on which one you went with.

some of my buckets had 8.0 and some of my buckets were in the early 7's so I just added a few more cups of lime
