Hey,
I did pull off some roots, but just the ones that were climbing up the sides of the cup so I left enough that they fit in the cup without circling at the bottom or going up the sides for now.

A little off topic but I just started a Mandarin tree and Avocado Tree. Put them both in 10 gal Fabric Pots. Do you think this would translate into these? I live in an apartment with a small patio and can't have a 10' tree. You think I'll be able to control with the air pots? Not sure if it works with real trees...

Lol will I get mini mandarins if it works?

There's no way you can bonsai in a 10 gallon pot. The roots will continue to expand given the space. Bonsai is about small pots.

There's no way you can bonsai in a 10 gallon pot. The roots will continue to expand given the space. Bonsai is about small pots.

You ahould start e trees in thhos pots until they get a thick/long enough trunk (up to you based on looks), and then cut it down to whatever size you want. A lot of bonsais are done with species of trees that get insanely huge. You can have redwood bonsais lmao. You;ll just need to make the pot smaller to keep it super tiny. That, and lots of pruning, but yea it'll definitely work!

Found a couple baby maples sprouting from those helicopter seed things (lol) so i picked one out of my pot outside and brought it in to plant and bonsai. Also, a tip.. keep a fan on them so the plant gently sway's or shakes a bit when the wind hits it. It'll make the stems and the trunk thicken up to prevent snapping.

Bonsai does not have to be tiny.

I just want to keep it at about 5' or less.

About 4" tall, topped early on, trimmed roots (in DWC, just cut half off with large scissors). Took clones and put it in flower to determine sex so no longer going, was just a little experiment.
