Still working out the quirks of my new 8x8x8 closed environment grown room. Soil (Roots Organic original), 1000 watt HPS in a 48" Vertizontal reflector, CAP 4 controller, bottled co2 (still new to me), no changes in nute regimen from last, dialed in grown room (roots organic liquid line).
When the HPS comes on the room comes up to about 81F, which I think is just about where I want it, but it gets down to 65 or so when the light is off. I'm seeing some real stretch in the plants which I didn't see in the last room. Lots of space between nodes. Flowers themselves are just as big as last room but the new room seems to have fewer flowers in a cola...that "spiral" of flowers up the last 8" rather than a big fat, flowers all the way around cola that I had before.
This is a SOG application, so plants in the same room may be 60" tall (inc smart pot) or 30", depending on age / stage of development. Thus it's tough for me to raise and lower the reflector. Adding pulleys / yo yos would also rob me of about 6" of vertical growing room, so reluctant there as well.
I don't yet have a co2 sniffer / monitor so I'm relying on the chart to dose the right amount of co2. (the last grow room had no co2 but was constantly refreshed with outside air). This room is CGE....no ventilation. I'm still sealing up the room to reduce co2 consumption. 5 fans, inc one sweet ECOplus 16" reciprocating wall mount. They go 24/7.
Changes from last environment:
Flower Room 1: constant fresh air from outside, 600 watt HPS, no environmental controller, 2 fans (none reciprocating), sealed reflector with lamp heat vented outside. This reflector also stayed in place....no moving it up and down base on plant height. 4x8x6 closet, closet door often open to help moderate temps. I don't think I recall whether fans went off at night or ran 24/7.
Flower Room 2: 99% sealed environment, 1000 watt hps, 48" open (not vented) vertizontal reflector, bottled co2 shooting for about 1100-1200 ppm, 5 fans running 24/7, no ppm sniffer.
Lastly, as I've gotten used to the co2, I've run out on occasion. When this happens, I open the grow room door and blow conditioned house air into the room until I refill co2.
Thanks for your help, guys. I've gone from 2-2.5 ounces dry of Sour Diesel #2 (Humboldt seeds) to 0.75-1.25 ounces dry with this flower room change. I imagine that ultimately this room will outperform the last, but working out the kinks is painful.
