Stupid Question

Hey there guys, I know this is probably a VERY stupid question, but I just need to ask for my own clarification

If I was thinking of growing just 1 or 2 plants, what would I need?

Please be thorough and how much would it smell, and what could I do to counter this as this would be in the same house as my parent's and I would need to keep it secretive perhaps in a shed or wardrobe... Which brings me onto another thing, how much room would I need, and what would the total cost of seeds and all equpiment be
