Can a newcomer grow their own in CO if they don't sell anything?

If your 21+ and have state id / dl then you can grow recreational. Get a red card as well and you are medical (much more respect from leo).

You can grow for personal use anywhere in the state. As far as i know no city's have outlawed personal use or growing. I believe the way A-64 is worded they cant make personal use or personal growing illegal only the business end can be opted out of and made illegal. A bunch of city's have opted out of a-64 as far as businesses go. Meaning no commercial growing or sales.
As far as to how much you can grow each person is allowed 6 plants with no more then 3 in flower at a time. They must be in a secure location so you can't just go out in your back yard and grow unless you have a green house that can be locked. The thing that would suck in your case is each person would have to have their own secure grow room or green house. So your plants must be separate from your wife's and sons and so on. Not sure how it will go with separate tents. If a tent was locked would it be considered secure under A-64. I guess time will tell on that one.
Having said that I really don't think small personal growers have much to worry about. There is a ton of folks growing for the black market here and they are more worried about them then busting small personal growers. Hope this helps
Edit: Forgot to mention that if you got a red card ( medical MJ ) the amount of plants you can grow for personal use goes up to 12 plants. Red Card prices dropped this year costs 35 bucks to file the application now

Let us also remember that violation of said code is a violation of city ordinance only, with very limited penalty mechanisms. Just saying

this is true in denver, anyway. each separate municipality will handle it different though - who knows how a less-friendly place like adams county will enforce limits. but denver officials have stated that it will be "complaint based" and in in most cases will be treated as a code violation rather than a criminal offense. theyll make you chop a few down and give you a fine. but, i still wouldnt want them coming to my door if i was egregiously over the limit, they can always just drop your address to the feds if they get a complaint and youre running 99 plants in your basement, ya know?
so you should still be cautious if youre a commercial producer especially if youre sending it out of state.
i find that its really easy to produce enough for myself while giving away a shitload to friends and staying within the limit for my wife and myself. dont be greedy.

Good info here, thanks everyone! I'm headed out to CO this coming week as a canna refugee. It sucks I have to pick up and leave my family and friends, but I've reached that point in my life where I need to live without fear. I've held a decent job for 7 years now and despite stability, I finally realized that I'll continue to be unhappy until these laws change. "Ain't nobody got time for dat" Luckily I've got some friends there already and they've provided a place to stay until I get back on my feet. Can't wait to start some of my collection. 6-12 plants... 3 flowering. I'm happy to abide by rules that make sense! ​
