well fellow smoke heads, how u think these are doing, ww seems too be lagging behind terribly, they were both germed at same time but lost ww seed in soil at start then had to redigg it up to replant, plus had to remove seed shell from leaves as it was caught. So just glad its alive really, using dual 300w cfl and biobizz soil mix. ok now for the real question i no everyone says leave cfls a few cm away from plants, but i need a bit of height now and the plants have stalky stems , i have moved the light up a good bit away from them in the hope it will stretch them out b4 flowering, any thoughts tips on what i shud do here is this a bad move? roughly 4 weeks

They look great! I would keep the CFLs close to the plants and put some 35w or higher CFLs on the side of each one to give those bottom leaves some light. You can put one on each side and just rotate the plant ever so often.

cheers indoor madness but what im saying is if the light is raised above them will it encourage vertical growth, i mean it should - just wodering if anyoneelse does this, ya know if the lights are only 2cm away then im thinking it may just be encouraging horizontal or canopy growth, p.s. cud just be talking out my ass here

They might be short now but when they hit flowering they get four times the size as they were in veg. If you want tall plants I suggest vegetating them for 5-6 weeks but you will have big plant that will need a lot of light and nutes. That strain could have short genetics as well. I'm growing blue dream and black Russian under a cfl led combo. The blue dream is tall and the black Russian is short and bushy.

Keeping the light away from the plant will cause the plant to stretch but that's not best for them. You will have support problems when those bad boys start growing buds. Its best to vegetate them longer if you want them tall.

How much headroom do you have, mick? As a general rule, you want your lights as close as possible without causing damage. Some plant will surprise you when they stretch. As they get taller you have to move the light higher and that means less light gets to the whole plant. Generally, doubling the distance of most lighting reduces the light to about 25%. Not reduces it by 25%. That's why people like to get them close. Oh yeah, your plants look great!
