Perfectly good HID lighting on a shoestring.

All of my lights have been made from "re-purposed" used high bay lights, and Craigslist is your friend in that dept. I found these 400w metal halide lights for $15 a piece!! Add a $9 extention cord, a few wire nuts and let there be light!!! A 400w Metal Halide light for under $25. Less than many CFL set ups!!!

So since I have to convert them anyway, I'm gonna put together a tutorial to show you how to convert this:

Into this:

I'll be updating the photos shortly, the only cam I had avail when I started this was this crappy Iphone. I now have a better cam, but these should do for now!!

While these may not be the prettiest things you ever laid eyes on, all the plants know is that they are getting HID instead of CFL.
BTW, I am NO electrical guru so I don't want to offend those gurus out there, I'm just a huge DIY'er, and will do something like this rather than spend good money for something I know I can make!!! Any and all suggestions to make this better are welcome!!!

Stay safe!
JH~

Sorry all that this got derailed. I had a major setback on the current grow. This will be continued in my Journals here shortly. My heartfelt thanx to all who have offered generosity to help me recoup from that loss. There is gonna be a Journal on the "Adventures". I love the RIU community!!!

Horrible wiring job. You need a boxed junction and a strain relief fitting / kellems grip.

Wholeheartedly agree on the strain relief fitting. I need a link to something I can incorporate for that here. As I said, electrical genius is NOT on my resume. This has served me well in the past and will get me back in the saddle again!! But this IS a "shoestring" lighting thread. All wiring is done right, connections could be soldered before using wirenuts, but I am merely trying to show how easy and inexpensive HID lighting can be. Snaps, we may not always agree, but dude, I have a lot of respect for ya!! You are one of the "Knowers" here rather than the "talkers" :peace:

^ yeah, dig that

and I realize its easy to be a critic from another keyboard, but I agree that wiring and setup could use a lil tightening up bro....
I'll lurk around either way and check you out
