the Information for Health Care Professionals from HC? It is a fairly comprehensive document but something at the beginning of the document caught my attention.

After they tell you that although the format may look like a Drug Product Monograph there is no Notice of Compliance authorizing its sale in Canada.

Then there's another box with this printed inside

"Cannabis (marijuana, marihuana) is not an approved therapeutic substance in Canada and has not been issued a notice of compliance by Health Canada authorizing sale in Canada"

This seems wrong to me given the new rules about to be enforced. How can it not be considered an approved therapeutic substance when they're making doctors prescribe it? Is it only the notice that's missing? Am I missing something here? It's very confusing!

This whole system is one giant confusing cluster fuck. I wish they would either just legalize or set up a tried and proven model for patients like Colorado and California have. This whole thing stinks. Fucking Harper.

Good point WHATFG, How can HC dictate where you purchase something that has not been authorized for sale, yet the courts have said is our right to possess? Where are you going to find a doctor to prescribe something that is not approved by HC when their college of physicians and surgeons advises them not to? How can they restrict the right to grow a plant to a small group of government regulated, tax dollar generating, for-profit companies when it isn't a therapeutic substance? When was the last time you heard anything intelligent from HC in regards to marijuana?

It's a proven model that actually looks at the needs of patients unlike this experimental bullshit we are being given. That doesn't mean enact exactly what they have. I do believe there should be some sort of personal production with national regulation, much like the "beer/wine" argument people give. Numbers can be changed etc.

The notice of compliance is required if a product is to be classified as a "drug" and to receive a DIN, a drug identification number. Marijuana is not a recognized drug in Canada. I am not sure if it is considered a nutriceutical, an herbal supplement or a natural health product but it is not a drug in Canada.
