150w HPS Questions

Okay so I have a 36x20x60 grow tent. I've been using a 2 foot t5 set up above plants and 8 cfl above plants hanging. I am about to start flowering and my average temp is about 78f. I want to put my t5 on the wall facing me so that the light will be facing me basically hitting the middle of the plants and then have a 150w Hps hanging above with the CFL with no hood just kind of hanging there. I have a 4in inline fans and a carbon filter. Think my tent will get too hot?

I only have one exhaust fan and the intake is just me opening up the bottom flap so air comes in through the filter and out the exhaust.

i also have a fan running on the plants. I have no experience with hps so I'm not sure the heat it would put out. Will it be okay just hanging there? Or should I just keep my t5 and cfls and not use hps.

150W Hps will put up same amount of heat as CFL equivalent of 150W. By all means use HPS, keep an eye on the temp, if necessary increase the air exchange.

HPS will make big difference in the final product quantity and quality.

Having 150W HPS and not using it not very wise move.

How would I increase air exchange

Stronger fan or second vent. But that may not be necessary, just plug in the HPS and monitor temperature for a while, that with not hurt anything, then if it gets too hot get more cooling capacity, larger fan or bigger exhaust.

Cant tell nothing until you try. I had 600W + 400W hps running together with only 6 inch fan blowing on 600W bulb, top of the plants were about 12" under 600W lamp. No problem. With only 150HPS you can come closer than 12".

Put your hand between the lamp and the top of the plants. if it feels warm it's OK, if hot and uncomfortable it will feel same for plants.

That size a tent is plenty big enough for a 150w HPS - the 4" inline should be more than adequate. I have a tent the exact same size with a 600w MH/HPS and 6" inline in it just for perspective (lamp is in a cool tube).

To add, I only use passive intake in veg (I open the screened flaps at the bottom). In flower I close the flaps and use a 4" duct w/ duct booster fan on it. Temps have been no issue even with only running the inline fan at the slowest speed.
