NICE SETUP! I love seeing a good grow come together.
I'm excited to see your results, you actually have the environmental control and op size to make meaningful comparisons.
Which EC scale are you using? DG will burn most plants at 1.6ec but if you're using the 700ppm conversion that's about 1.14 which is a good dose.
I can't see paying canna nute prices. If you want full control mineral salts are much cheaper. The full AN line uses more bottles than you need salts to make Hoagland's solution and you can modify that to whatever ratios you want.

ratio on my hanna meter is 500-1 i think. have to double check. the run is gonna be a no additive run. dynagro and bloom vs. sensi grow and bloom. straight up who has the more complete base nute. i've never even seen all the additives an has but if you check around my threads you'll see i've grown some serious dank using AN and 1-2 additives.

I'm not saying AN can't grow some serious dank. I just would never pay that money for a fertilizer. That's why I want to start mixing my own.
I hope you add H&G to the test as well. I used to run them a few years ago in a commercial op and was always pleased with the results.

definitely putting H&G into the test. i have never run them before but a buddy of mine does and loves them so i got a bunch of their base and additives as gifts from greners.com and i want to try them out. experimentation is half the fun for me.

i'd love to be able to mic my own salts. honestly i'm just to lazy and i don't think i'm smart enough. lol. i can build the shit out of anything but mixing salts may be above my pay grade.

It's just a little math. Generally you're concerned with the amounts of the 6 macronutrients so it's figuring out how to best make the desired ratios. The nastiest things you're likely to deal with are sulfuric acid and potassium hydroxide. They certainly demand respect but they're really not scary when compared to other chemicals.

i think i would be more inclined to experiment with it but as you may have noticed i live in Costa Rica most of the year and that is where my grow is. Access to salts, macro and micro nutrients is not as easy as in the u.s. not even sure if it's possible.

got a question for ya; my air temps are 73-75 deg F, and my water temps are 78-82deg F. im looking into an EcoPlus 1/10 HP chiller for my 10 site, 35-45 gallon undercurrent rdwc. do you have any experience with water chillers similar in size? how much heat to they put off? is it worth it for me to invest in one?
i have a portable AC unit but seems like it might be more efficient to let the air temps go up and just focus on the water, ya know?

air temps are perfect. i think you'll need a bigger chiller though. probably 1/4hp. water temps should be around 68 degrees.

they put a ton of heat off man. Make sure you keep it outside your room and you'll need a good exhaust fan to vent the heat. Inefficient little bastards.

that's why scoobs chiller is so awesome because the unit sits outdoors. Waaaay more efficient that way.

they do put off some heat so you will need to compensate for that. they aren't inefficient like you might be thinking...they are actually about 30% more efficient than an a/c...but a/c's are inefficient too. it's just the lesser of 2 evils.

the lights all have Ice Box Heat Exchangers on them. I can lay my face on the glass of a 1000w light that has been on for 48 hours and not feel a thing. The water cooled air handlers are for ambient heat. That's why i have a 6 ton chiller.

we got black bamboo here in philly. its cool. best to plant in concrete pots because it could run and take over the whole of costa rica.

it's not black bamboo. it's 8" pressure treated bamboo that we stained (too dark in my opinion). It is the fence line between the garden area and the workshop next door. we pull it down every 2-3 years and take off the stain, sand it down, replace the broken pieces and put it back up. we'll stain it a lot lighter this year.
